so in the demo they ignore line changes for be a pro mode. i wonder if they plan on doing that in the real game? i sure hope not. kinda defeats the purpose. i am an working my way up as a 3rd line guy, why would i be out there the whole game including all the power plays and stuff??? and if they do decide to have you go off for line changes, do they make you watch the rest of the game? also has anyone gotten a penalty? do you sit in the box and just watch the game for 2 minutes? (maybe i will go home tonight and trip people to see what happens)
i cant wait for next week and getting to play the whole game!
i have gotten a goal and an assist as zetterberg, it was my best game. but i am still pretty bad in general, so that was a big accomplishment for me!

I think they do have line changes in the single player mode, but that is a vague recollection from a video I saw. From what I understand when you are off the ice you sit and watch, just like you are in a real game. I will see if I can find some proof of any of this later.
The online mode doesn't have this as the games are only 6 on 6.
I haven't gotten a penalty yet despite some very obvious assaults that I was perpetrating, so they may have taken that out of the demo.
WhiteTom is correct. When not playing you will sit on the bench watching the action while the coach barks orders at you. Online will be much like the demo however, with your player being on the ice the whole time.
I was close to scoring a hattrick with crosby last night. I'm brutal with zetterberg though, it always ends up in a shootout.
This is very interesting to me. Let me try and put the pieces together here.
1. You can create your own player.
2. You can choose to be a goalie, defenceman or forward.
3. You can further choose a roll for your player (stay at home defenceman, sniper, playmaker, grinder, etc.).
4. You can select a mode that permits you to play as only your character (either created or pre-existing).
5. You have to sit in the bench and watch when your player is not on the ice for a shift.
6. You can play in a mode where you start in the minors and attempt to prove yourself through performance on the ice such that you can make the Big Club and get minutes in the NHL.
7. Therefore, if you are destined to be a third or fourth line mucker you could spend most of your EA Sports NHL 09 experience sitting on the bench watching a simulated game going on around you.

There's no line changes. You only sit on the bench when you're in the box. So, you start off in the minors and work your way up, but it doesn't make sense because you're always on the ice.

I knew there had to be a catch in there somewhere.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you may even start out in one of the minor leagues, working your way up through those ranks before making it to the NHL. In this way it might work out that if you aren't good enough to get into the NHL, you remain as a decent player on your minor league team, thus avoiding the situation you described.
A third-person camera follows you the whole time, including your time on the bench waiting for the next line change. Before every shift, feedback is displayed from the previous shift, giving you perfect information on the fly. An energy bar will help you time your changes.
Yes, you will be sitting on the bench if you use the Be a Pro mode offline. I imagine even if you're a grinder that your stats will increase as you play until you make the 1st or 2nd lines.
The 360 demo is pretty sweet, I may like it better than 08 so far. A lot of the weird characteristics of the CPU seem to be gone, like having the puck stick to them like glue after getting checked.
Once again EA crap all over 2K from a great height.
I cant wait to go home and download this thing. I got rid of 08 about a month ago, so I'm craving some hockey gaming. Glad the game is out soon.

Well reviews shouldn't come until late Friday or early next week anyway. Community leaders are getting a delay in the copies we are suppose to be receiving, but I don't believe it is connected since media outlets should get them earlier anyway still.
This game is going to be awesome. The pace is toned down nicely, shots are less powerful and less accurate, one timers are more difficult, goalies seem to make some nicer saves. So far the gameplay seems a lot more balanced and it feels good.
I wasn't sure what I'd think of be a pro mode, but so far I'm having a blast with it. Its kind of a refreshing way to play the game, and its challenging. Not sure if the novelty of it will wear off after a while but so far I really like that mode.

I for one am starting to get a little freaked out about something. Remember back in the good old days of ps2 and xbox when you'd score a goal in dynasty and season it would display your season totals along with the goal scorers name and assist names? I was under the impression that was returning this year. Pictures like this are making me wonder:
There is of course a chance that this screenshot was taken from an exhibition game where no such totals would be displayed, but there's also the chance that by announcing that the stats would be displayed after the goal that they mean only the stats for the current game would be shown. This would break my nerdy little heart if it turned out to be true.
If only we had a community leader that had in-depth knowlege of the game. Somebody who is incredibly active on the ea forums to the point that they might be able to answer this burning question for me *squints at joborule*.
