Default Halifax woman fails to understand the meaning of personal responsibility

I often wonder if the victims in stories such as this realize they only make the paper to serve as an example to others that mass stupidity has consequences?

Well they could have warned her that people were watching the store and breaking into cars.

It happened once at a Best Buy that same day. Its not like it was from that store or it was more than one.

If it was a string of incedencts maybe, the funniest thing in the article is that her 9 or 10 year old son asked if they should hide it. They are smarter than the mom. Also, why would credit card insurance cover it, wouldnt it be car insurance if anything?

As they got out of the car, her younger son asked if they should hide the computer.
"I said, ‘No, no, honey, we’re going to be 10 minutes. Don’t worry about it. It’s broad daylight.’ "

Would she have said the same thing if an employee suggested they hide the computer?

""The policeman said that they are so frustrated with Future Shop specifically because they have been informed of this and they are not taking any actions whatsoever," Ms. Covert said of the parking lot theft scheme."

The police are frustrated with Future Shop?!?!?! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here... or did the author just get that backwards?

smart kid, that lady could learn a thing or two from him. leaving your stuff out in the open like a purse and computer is never a good idea.

It's her fault, not FutureShop's. Dumb to leave a purse and a new laptop out in the open, even if it's only 10 minutes.

The part I don't understand is how is she shopping if she leaves HER PURSE IN THE CAR?! Were you planning on buying anything, lady? In addition, right on the front seat? Idiot. I'm surprised they didn't take the purse.

To leave valuables like that in plain view is stupid, but to fault the store is stupid x 2.

I like this part, the police said:

"How hard would it be to say, ‘Look, we know that people are watching the store and we suggest that you go straight home with your computer.’

That way the crooks follow YOU HOME and know where you live with a nice new computer. D'uh.

This kind of story makes me sick. Society's 'blame everyone else' mentality will be the downfall of societal relations and growth. How this woman can sit there and argue that Future Shop is partially to blame is beyond stupid. Once you leave the store, you're responsible for your own safety and well-being; not Future Shop.

Don't leave your damn purse and other valuable goods in broad daylight of your car. Common, common, common, common, common, common, common, common, common, common, sense. THIS LADY HAS NONE OF IT. Own up to your own failure to protect your goods and get off your damn high horse. Despite what you think, nobody owes you ****. It isn't Future Shop's problem that the mall is a centre of activity for crime. Perhaps don't shop there in the first place. Order online, next time.

Perhaps your gold luxury SUV made for a good target as well, but I digress...

So what was Future Shop supposed to do, tell her that there were a few break-in's after people have shopped at their store so go right home and hide your laptop. Are they supposed to say this to everyone that shops there? If I went to a store and was told this I think that I would stop going there so that could be why they are not telling people.
Plus if the cops know that the guys are casing this store then could they not do some under cover thing? Or take the serial numbers of these laptops and give them out to pawn shops and such to see if they show up, but that would involve work, sorry my bad.
Also how can they prove that the person followed them from that future shop? It could have been a random thing, someone going around looking for idiots to leave thing out in plain view then grab them. I know that I would look at nice cars like Lexus' first. I think that Future Shop could go after them for saying that in the paper and not having proof.

So... if I understand this correctly... the cops know that this is happening, and know how (thief watches store for big ticket item, follows, smash-n-grab) but can't figure out an effective sting operation to catch the crooks. Hmm... however will we be able to catch these dastardly criminals? If only there was some way to, you know... disguise a policeman as a member of the public... and then... hmm.... maybe get them to leave a store..... ya ya... then... like... they'd have a box or something.... and, you know.... put it in the car or something.....

Where is this store, Springfield? Maybe South Park?

She probably tried to sue her high school boyfriends dad when his son stole her virginity.

"Well he should have warned me that his son had one of those things and knew how to use it"
