I think it's a little stronger than a rumour now. The Lions are just waiting for the Bombers to "re-work" Roberts' contract.

Am I a little confused, or was Joe Smith available for essentially nothing off waivers a few weeks ago?

Roberts traded for Joe Smith.

As per TSN text.

Roberts is done. This is good news for the West Division.

don't make any sense for me especially from BC's point of view. I guess Stefan Logan is not really a shoo-in yet. I can see the Bombers being unhappy with Roberts especially this season and Joe Smith is not a bad RB.

I wonder why the Leos traded for a similar style back to the one they already have starting in Logan, I assume Roberts will play more of a mentor role.

I would think they would trade for a power back like Reynolds or Lumsden (I know it wouldnt happen, just using an example) just to change up the running style in-game if necessary, but i guess it wouldn't really make sense for the other team unless it was a trade for another disgruntled RB.

I thought this was weird as well since the Lions apparently have Kenton Keith coming as well since he was cut from Indy.

^^^^ Yeah actually that's another thing that puzzle me. If Kenton Keith is really coming to BC, what would Wally do with Roberts and Logan. I can see Roberts getting traded again to another Eastern team (Toronto?). I don't know.

The way Roberts is playing this season, I think Joe Smith is a big plus for the Bombers. They can finally have the powerful RB since Willard Reaves left.

I think KK will end up in TO now as I don't think the Lions will pursue him with this move. Don't know of any other teams in need of RB...

Don't understand this trade at all - Roberts a very popular guy in Winnipeg. Can't imagine Taman made too many friends with this one. Plus, Roberts isn't the problem IMO - it's the o-line. I don't think Smith is going to fix the problem.

I have mixed feelings about this one. It's tough to see Roberts go after all this time, but he's been very ineffective this season.

The O-line hasn't been great either but I hope that'll be less of a factor with a bigger, stronger running back like Smith.

Smith has been a major headache for the Lions this year. His attitude and desire to play has come into questions a couple times this year. Wally couldn't have been pleased with the distraction he caused when he didnt show up for the games when he was injured nor did he go to the Bob Ackles tribute. Was he required to go?? No....should he have gone?? Probably. The "joe being joe" mentality can only go so far before it begins to become a distraction and I think this was the result.

Having said that, I'm of the mind that this trade doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Leos, getting an older version of the style of back that they already have.
