Can you imagine if Marvin Lewis and the Bengals GM/ownership got pissed off at this and made him change his number? That would be amusing.
I like superstar clowns like Johnson as long as I can watch them during the Sportscentre highlights and chuckle at their antics, and not while they're destroying my team in the process (either playing for or against them). That wasn't worded as well as it could've been, but you know what I mean.
Some of the heads are all over him because Ocho Cinco doesn't transalte to eighty-five. The whole thing is funny and Chad will tell you it's for fun. I think it's for future business opportunities myself.

I agree.... except the only thing is that description is about as far from Chad Johnson as it gets(or Chad Ocho Cinco, I guess??).
The man always puts it on the line for his team. Lays out for(and makes) more catches than anybody in the NFL right now... and as a result gets hit harder, bounces back up and still hangs on more than the rest.
He's the type of destroyer I take on my team any day...
See, my question in all of this is that I understand the motivation between creating an association your number and you... but how does it get to the point where than number replaces your name to denote you? Hard to articulate this, but what I'm trying to say is even though everyone knows '99' is Wayne Gretzky (can't be more successful at branding your number), Wayne Greztky is still what refers to the actual person. How do you get that mixed up.
And yeah, I love most of his antics (i.e. cheerleader proposal touchdown celebration), but this one is just baffling.
