Default Computer Help - Sound CArd and Video/Monitor Drivers

Figured I'd start a new thread from the one below. Had a virus, had to wipe my machine and re-install the o/s (XP). Have a couple of issues right now.

Sound - have no idea what my sound card is. Don't have the driver cd for it and my original PC bill (bought from a local shop) doesn't indicate what it is to get the driver for my PC. They (the local store) figure it may be the standard sound 'card' on the motherboard but have no idea. Any ideas? How do I get my sound working?

Video - less of an issue but can't seem to install my monitor's video drivers. I have the install CD but it doesn't allow me to install the drivers - just gets me to the manual. The manual indicates to go to Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Monitor then click on Properties. Problem is Properties is greyed out - can't click on it. I don't have too many issues with the video right now but would like to install the drivers as my monitor is just a bit off since my re-install.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Well, the only way to know for sure is if you post pictures of the internals of your system. Identifying the actual component manufacturers would go a long ways. As well as determining what the model numbers are.

Monitor drivers can sometime be downloaded from the update.microsoft.com website, as an optional install. However, installing video-card drivers is what unlocks the full capabilities of the system.

Monitor drivers should be easy to find. Just grab the model number of your monitor and type it into a search on the manufacturer's website.

For sound, you'll need to do one of two things:
1) If it's a sound card that's separate from the mother board, head to the cards manufacturer's website and search for the specific driver.
2) If it's built in to the motherboard, do the same thing but search for the motherboard model number on the board's manufacturer's website.

I highly recommend avoiding doing straight google searches for drivers. There are a lot of phony "driver" websites that offer trojans instead of drivers. Just make sure you are downloading directly from the manufacturer and you'll be fine.

Tried taking some pictures but just couldn't get a good one with enough clarity to help. I'll attach but not so good...

From my purchase bill, it has the following for info on my motherboard: Intel 865GLCL PGA478ATX3PCI AGP8X. Against Llama's advice, I did a google search but came up with nothing. Not sure where to go from here. I can always crack open my PC again and look for specific info - just not sure what to look for.

As for the monitor drivers, I found them and have the '.icm', '.cat' and '.inf' files for my monitor. I just can't figure out how to install them.

Again, thanks for the help in working me through this.

You don't even have an actual sound card or video card. Both are built-in on the motherboard.
It's an Intel P4 CPU with AGP slot --- that's all I can get from your description and pics.

Likely the onboard sound card is something like Intel 865G or AD1985. Maybe even C-Media CMI 8738 or similar.
The video drivers you need will be Intel graphics. Possibly Intel Extreme Graphics 2. Maybe visit www.intel.com and search for a util that will help you identify your exact videochip, then get the drivers from their site.

Cool, since you have one of the integrated boards, all you need are the drivers listed here,

You need drivers 2-5, and should install them as such. I don't know about your wireless card, so looking up the manufacturer there again should help out.
