Default "Stephen Harper" Ad

Anybody else feel like puking?

Also, somebody should tell that moron at the end of the clip that you vote for the candidate in your riding, not the leader of the party (unless you're in Calgary SW I suppose). This isn't the US, as much as Stephen Harper and the Tories would like it to be.

After 30+ months I'm still shocked this bible-thumping doofus was actually elected.

I'm surprised the Prime Minister of Canada still has such a bad advertising agency working for him. After all these years, even the people in the ad are sounding even more fake than he is. What terrible actors.

Actually, a lot of people do vote for the head of the party. And really, why not? Harper originally said that he would want more free votes in the House of Commons, but the voting blocks have been more unified than ever. Voting against your party was not welcome under the Liberals and now even more so with the Conservatives. I'm not exactly sure why we elect all of these back-benchers that do absolutely nothing than parrot the party leaders.

In any case, it is important for the Conservatives to put Stephen Harper everywhere. Unlike elections past. Right now the latest poll has the Liberals at 35% nationally and the Conservatives at 33%. However, the Liberals strength is in their local candidates being popular, not their leader. When asked who would make the most competent leader of the country, 38% said Harper while 22% said Dion. So you will end up seeing a lot of local campaign ads with Harpers face on them in the upcoming election.

The guy is the most honest and arguably the best PM we have seen in decades. He is by far the most competent leader Canada has right now.

If you don't like it move south.

I agree he has been good relative to past leaders ... but these cheesy commercials do nothing to sway people that would be on the fence. They do more harm than good.

The mailer I got from my conservative MP baically showed a bollot box with all the party leaders on it, and implied that a vote for him was how you vote for Harper.

Good strategy; as I know not everybody knows their politics. Make sure people know how to vote for your party. If you are running for office, you don't care how smart your supporters are; just that they are behind you.

Harper is the only palatable leader in federal politics. Everyone else would embarass us on the international stage.

20? Try 30. And while I like Harper, calling him one of the best of the last three decades is not exactly a ringing endorsement either. Not with such stellar company as corrupt individuals like Mulrooney and Chretien, the man who did more to divide and destroy this nation than any other individual in history in Trudeau and incompetents like Martin and Clark.

Guess well see what is more effective: Conservative cheese, or Liberal slander.

Heck, I'm a left wing as they get and I don't want Dion or Layton running this country--I wouldn't trust either running a bake sale.

I will die a little inside when I mark an X next to the PC box, but once in a while you gotta do what's best for the whole.

I know I could act better than the people in his ads.

"I'm actually voting for Steve this time, plus he's got a cute ass"

*I actually have never checked out his or any other politician's rear, let's just make that clear.

.
That's the problem - even traditional Liberal supporters are turned off the party because of Dion.

Layton I think has actually marginally improved his image in the last year - but his party's politics make him unelectable.

So it leaves Harper - perhaps simply by default.

The Liberals made one of their biggest errors in history when they elected Dion as their leader.

The federal leader with the most charisma by far is actually Duceppe.

I get extremely annoyed with political commercials that are shown prior to a general election being called, and Harper has done that numerous times during this term. I'd love nothing more than a ban on them.

Meh... commercials are commercials. Are they any worse than the annoying Coke eyeball thing?

The sad fact is a large percentage of the people in this country don't educate themselves on the issues and the parties before voting - if they even bother to vote. Those that do vote do so because their dad voted that way, or that's what they've always done.

It's pathetic really.
