I had a hard time picking a band, groups to me do not compare to the individuals in them. More time then not lesser musicians are holding a great musician back....

I'm happy to be able to pick these guys so late

Billy Gibbons is a very underrated guitarist IMO.

Has a nasty part on QOTSA's Burn The Witch from Lullabies. Great stuff.

I also love the fact that Frank Beard is the drummer. He has no beard. Their trademark is beards. His name is Frank Beard.

Thanks for that link DFF
Billy is one of the rare non strat players I listen too... I have such a huge bias to wards the Stratocastor that it pretty much dictates what me ear prefers. To me a guitar needs that single coil sound to sound like a guitar, but Billy is able to shed that nonsense for me

There's not too many power trios still going. It's funny because their sound is really a lesson in blues and it's hidden behind that kick-ass rock band

A finer description of ZZ Top has never been written. Seriously.

Funny, my wife watches the TV show Bones (ok, I like it too) and Billy plays the father of one of the characters. I think he's made two guest appearances...but the kicker is that he is playing himself. So the storyline is that this chick is Billy Gibbons' daughter. I just wonder how that came about in the writing process!

Billy Gibbons was reportedly Hendrix's favourite.

Hot Banana Thrust is happy to selevt in the USA West Miss category the greatest band in the world

Tenacious D

Tenacious D is a rock band formed in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of Jack Black (lead vocals, guitar) and Kyle Gass (lead guitar, vocals).

Tenacious D formed in 1994 when the members performed as an acoustic duo. The band first gained popularity in 1999 when they starred in their eponymous television series and began to support large rock acts. In 2001, they released the self titled "Tenacious D", their debut album featuring a full band. The first single, "Tribute", was the band's most successful achieving their only Top 10 in any chart. In 2006, they starred in, and recorded the soundtrack for, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. In support of the film, the band went on a world tour, appearing for the first time with a full band.

Tenacious D's music showcases Black's theatrical vocal delivery and Gass' acoustic guitar playing abilities. Critics have described their fusion of vulgar absurdist comedy with rock music as "mock rock". Their songs discuss the duo's purported musical and sexual prowess, as well as their friendship and cannabis usage in a style that music critics have compared with the storyteller-style lyrics of rock opera.

Tribute
or unofficially, "The Greatest Song in the World"

As my next pick: In the Canada category, I am pleased to select, one of my favourite local bands at the time:

The Cleaning Mops

http://www.purevolume.com/thecleaningmops

Believe it or not, all their songs are completely improvised and made up on the spot, including lyrics.

I was just watching the Kickapoo video last night. Freaking hilarious.

What's funny is that a lot of people dismiss it as pure comedy when in fact the music has some integrity. Yes, it's hilarious and nonsensical, but musically it is entertaining. To me anyway.

Also funny that much of the stuff they write about is completely made up.

Yeah, Gass is a fantastic writer, kinda gets forgotton. Black is funny and a semi-musical-genius who deserving so gets the spotlight, but Kyle is so much better IMO.

No offense, but probably the worst band I've ever heard.
