Sure you can, it's called empathy. Try and feel how other people would feel. It's not that hard of a thing to do.
I've known people who's girlfriends have cheated on them, who've had their homes broken into, who've been victims of violence who've harbored less of a grudge against those who wronged them than some of the "fans" who feel all betrayed by Metallica evolving and changing their sound.
My point isn't that these poor people didn't have a right or reason to feel angry at the time, but 17 years later, it's time to get the hell over it and quit spewing hate about a band they say they haven't liked or listened to for almost two decades.

They could just be reading into it too much but some people figure these lines of lyrics could have a connection to Cliff Burton's death.
Crushing metal ripping skin
Tossing body mannequins
Spilling blood bleeding gas
Mangled flesh snapping spines
Dripping bloody valentine
shattered face spitting glass

Just saw this on Metclub.com
"1. The pre-sale for ALL North American shows starts at 10:00 AM in the city the show is taking place in (what we call around here "local time") on Saturday, August 30. "
If it's anything like it was back in 04 then tickets should go on sale to the public a few days later so look for tickets to go on sale within the next week or so.

After repeated listenings, I am liking My Apocalypse a lot more now than before. Great tune.

One thing I've noticed about the new album and track listing, is they've not just gone back to the old sound, but the old track format too.
ie: the "ballad" (The Day that Never Comes) is track #4 again, just like Fade to Black, Sanitarium and One.
The last track (My Apocalypse) is the fastest one, just like Metal Militia, Damage Inc and Dyer's Eve.
The instrumental is usually the second last song and people are expecting this album's instrumental to be in the same spot as well.
Exceptions: Kill em All didn't have a "ballad" and Ride the Lightning's fastest song is Trapped Under Ice (first song, side two). Also, Anesthesia (from Kill em All) and Ktulu (from Lightning) aren't the second last tracks, but (then again) Puppets and Justice are really the two albums that hammer home the Metallica concept, anyway, and this new album is said to be following the same lines.
Edit: Sorry, I guess my point to all of that is that My Apocalypse is probably going to be the fastest song on the album, given its place in the track listing and the way they've historically arranged their old-school albums.
Edit 2: Had to delete the apostrophe from "its" in the above sentence... incorrectly placed apostrophes drive me bonkers.

It definitely does have a real Dyer's Eve feel to it.

I don't understand why people get so uptight about Metallica and their supposed 'sell out'. I prefer the old stuff, for sure. I didn't like what I heard of St. Anger (I don't own it) and I am not a huge fan of most of the eponymous album, but I thought Load and Reload were largely excellent. I think S & M is simply brilliant. Metal and a full orchestra is a match made in heaven.
I just don't get why if you like some of the new stuff you can't be a true Metallica fan. I think I will buy this record. Sounds good so far.
Personally....
1. Master of Puppets
2. And Justice For All
3. Ride The Lightning
4. Kill 'em All
5. Load/Reload (tie)
6. Black album
7. St Anger

Had an idea!

Load and Reload were 347% better than most 'hard' rock albums during that time.
I like them. Sure, they're not old school Metallica, but I still liked them.

I actually think that Load and Reload are epic albums. I too like virtually all of Metallica's stuff, but those two albums rank near the top for me. I also agree, that S&M is brilliant. I would have loved to see that live...I would have paid a lot of money to have done so.

While not willing to get back into the whole debate again... For the record, I never once claimed that anyone who likes their new stuff isn't a "real fan." I don't do the whole "real fan" thing.
In fact, I specifically stated that I don't care which Metallica other people prefer.
For myself, personally, I like their stuff up to (and including) Justice, and that's it.
Just my own taste.
PS: The more I hear from this new album, the more excited I get. It's been 20 very long years for me (since Justice). I can't wait!
Edit: Oh and...
1. Lightning
2. Puppets
3. Kill em All
4. Justice
5. The $5.98 EP: Garage Days Re-revisited

Oh, I didn't even read the whole thread so I wasn't really referring to anyone here. It's a pervasive opinion that I encounter and I'm sure there are a few here who share it.
I left off the Garage Days EP. There's some good stuff on that too. Breadfan for instance!
