I think it used to be that men cheated wayyy more than women, but in today's world it is probably alot closer to equal. I think it still goes like this though : Women cheat because they are unhappy, Men cheat because they can. I do believe that most women that are happily married never consider cheating, where I think men can be happily married and still want to cheat because its natural for them to want variety. I don't think men are any worse for cheating than women. I think everyone fantasizes about it at some point, but actually doing it is a moral issue, not a gender issue.

Wow, I completely disagree with this as a whole. Married woman have flings even when they're happy. Men usually cheat because they're unhappy with their marriage just like woman. I've seen more marriage among friends break up because of the wife playing on the side as oppossed to the husband, probably because the men have way more to lose.
I don't know if men cheat when they're happy because frankly its tough enough to please one fricken woman as oppossed to two, maybe thats why threesomes fall flat.

LOL! Not to continue the pileon, but men cheat because they can? Gimme a break. You make it sound like it's prewired for us whereas women have a "reason". Not even close to being true.

People cheat because they are unhappy, unfulfilled, have the opportunity, etc. Gender doesn't matter when the act of cheating occurs.
Women tend to equate sex with love more then Men. So perhaps that's where this idea might come from. For women, cheating is a profound violation of an emotional relationship, whereas for most men, it's just sex. But characterizing these strictly in gender stereotypes is too limiting to draw any useful conclusions from.
I think the difference for gender becomes apparent in the justification of said acts though. In most cases, women cheat because their man failed them. Men tend to cheat because they get the opportunity to and think they can get away with it.

Gotta blow that theory out of the water. My sisters ex husband cheated on her becuase he wasn't happy and felt he wasn't getting enough attention from her.

I'm not talking about statistics necessarily here. I am talking about society's PERCEPTION that men cheat way more often than women. I used Oprah as an example of the media having an influence on this perception, that men are the bad ones. You never see men sitting in the "victim" chair on Oprah do you? Haven't you heard the saying that women are like monkey's they don't let go of their vine until they have a good grasp on the next one?? Haha.

Buzzard, it is natural for both sexes to want variety, but women rarely admit it because they dont want to be tagged by society as a slut. Women are just as much, if not more sexual than men are. Read the book My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday and you will see what I mean.

Nope. I'm not familiar with the victim chair. It sounds painful.

Yup, the perceived difference in why genders cheat for different reasons is because women just lie about why they cheat.
Wife: Husband, why are you sleeping with the maid.
Husband: I like sex.
Husband: Wife, why are you sleeping with the mailman.
Wife: *theological dissertation*
