Default iPhone / iPod Sync with multiple computers?

So I'm trying to add a few songs from my work computer to my iPhone through iTunes and its telling me that I have to erase what's there already to do it.

That seems very stupid, I have to put a few audio files I downloaded onto a USB key and take them home and then put them on the device???

Apple can be cool and so very annoying at the same time.

Any way around this?

There should be a check box that says something like manually manage music or something along those lines. check that off and drag the songs from your itunes library over to your ipod/iphone

Yeah I check the manually manage and that's when it gives me the box that says if I click ok to confirm it will erase all my music.

Is you work computer a PC, and home Mac? or vice versa?

If they're both the same, and you manually manage transfers, it should be fine. I think you might be having a one off problem, rather then an apple being annoying by design problem.

Actually I get that same problem. My home mac is obviously my main itunes, so when I hook my iphone up to my work mac it tells me that I can only use one itunes at a time. It is frustrating.

I did a google search (amazing, I posted before I googled, that's unusual for me!) and it seems this is a design feature! There's even a kludgy workaround.

iPods work, but iPhones do not. Which makes me feel better because I was sure I was doing this before with my iPod Touch.

I'm happy we figured out the problem ... sad that the answer is that I'm screwed.

It's things like this that make my pull my hair out about Apple.

There is a sharepod that works for iPhone/Touch now. I tried it once and it worked.. OK

found a work-around, using some hex editting. Maybe give this a try (i'll have to do this soon as well, but i haven't tested it yet)

Apple has to please the RIAA some how, and this is one way they do it. You can only manage your iPod/iPhone on one computer. It's on purpose to stop you criminals from sharing valuable music files!

I usually just shove the music I want to load on my iPod onto a flash drive and copy it to the computer that manages my iPod. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but it's not something that pisses me off so much that I'm willing to use a cludgy folder driven player. I like my iTunes... mmm... Apple Kool-aid.

Nothing has contributed more to piracy than the good old RIAA.
