Icon41 Sharks Trade Future for Present

It was not an easy deal to make. Kinda made me feel a little sick to do it knowing how this trade triangle worked out in fact, but in the end I think it's worth it. The Sharks moved future superstar, Steve Stamkos, for current top line young forward Alexander Frolov. After all was said and done the Sharks kinda came out at the bottom of the barrel on this one as it all started like this:

To Ana:
Henrik Sedin, 27y 80ov
11th overall pick

To SJ:
1st overall pick (Stamkos)
2nd round pick

Then the Ducks traded Sedin to LA

To Ana:
Alex Frolov, 25y 79ov
4th round pick

To LA:
Henrik Sedin, 27y 80ov
3rd round pick

Then the Sharks went and handed Stamkos back to the Ducks

To Ana:
Steve Stamkos

To SJ:
Alex Frolov, 25y 79ov
3rd round pick

So in the end of that mess, the Sharks basically traded Sedin and the 11th overall pick for Frolov, a 2nd and a 3rd. Not very good asset management but looking at my team now, I needed another scoring winger and wanted someone young and talented. Frolov fits that bill perfectly.

Moving forward, the Sharks now have a full roster and are deep in talent at every position. Still nobody that is a game breaker, but as a group I think we have what it takes to win a lot of games this season.

Cheechoo 78ov - Bergeron 78ov - Frolov 79ov
Kozlov 76ov - Forsberg 79ov - Maxim 76ov
Yashin 75ov - Koivu 76ov - Murray 75ov
Barnes 73ov - McAmmond 73ov - Perron 71ov

Klesla 78ov - Burns 77ov
Wideman 77ov - Mitchell 77ov
Allen 77ov - Havelid 76ov

Osgood 79ov
Lalime 75ov

Also of note, the Sharks defense's worst DF rating is Wideman at 70DF. Besides that Mitchell tops the chart at 78DF, Allen has 76DF, Havelid 74DF, Klesla and Burns both bring in a 73DF, so I believe my defense will be very tough to get by and even if you do, Osgreat will be there to shut the door!

Thanks to Ravi for the interesting talks, as always!

Can't wait to get this season under way!

Ummm..Ok...I don't know who got traded when. Frolov isn't a bad player, I think he's rated higher then he should be, but a 79 OV winger for a kid who might top out at 73-74 this year isn't bad. I still think the Ducks have to decide what kind of plan they have for there team. One minute it's building to win now, the next it's stockpiling kids...I'm so confused.

Not to mention now the Sharks are $4.7 million over the cap

Well...Spike being confused is nothing new, so I don't know why that would surprise anyone.

But yeah...it does look funny when GM's play volley ball with a certain player...usually one guys giving and the other guy's taking...so who's doing what here LOL, you're only *** if you're taking it aren't you!

PS I hate the Sharks...how did they ever build such a crazy deep team.

I like the deal in this form, obviously the net deal wasn't so great but sometimes you have to cut your losses and just deal with it.

I can't follow the first message and have no idea who was traded for what or when so I will assume everybody involved in the deal (there is more than just SJ and Ana right???) did well and offers congrats to them all. ( whomever they may be).

No, I wasn't being sarcastic. I meant seriously "Oh, well..." as in oh, I forgot to mention. Sorry for coming off that way.

Well we are still going for a run but having looked over the Blues roster we realized we could lose 5-6 of our top players and still coast to a 5-0 victory so we felt we could deal some of them for some very talented youth.

Just jokes, in seriousness we realized the importance of cap space this offseason and think that Stamkos is a great longterm investment because he has a 99% chance of being in the nhl this year so 2-3 years from now we could have him on a very good contract.

Frolov is nice but ideally we can replace him for a vet rated a bit lower and a much lower price then Stamkos.

Well I like the latest deal for SJ. Getting a 79 OV player, in his mid 20's, without giving up anyone who has ever played in the NHL is a good deal. Granted Stamkos will be there soon, and probably have a mid 70's rating after a year. But Frolov is very good right now.

But overall, SJ doesn't make out as well. And I don't think Anaheim does either really. So actually I don't know what the point was, neither team seemed to get much better when you put the trades together.
