Default Hard Drive Question

I recently bought an HP laptop that has 2 separate 120GB hard drives (240GB total). I plan on saving a ton of videos, songs and pictures onto my laptop, so I was just wondering if 240GB will be enough, or if I should sell the drives I have now and buy something like a 500GB hard drive to replace them?

I have no idea how much media 240GB can hold, so any help would be great. Haha.

Thanks!

240 gb is pretty big. I don't think a 500 gb drive is necessary, what I'd do is use the 240 for now, give it 6 months and see how much of it is filled up. That'll give you an idea of whether or not you will eventually need to upgrade - but I really really doubt you will.

BTW, I'd imagine the laptop actually has 1 hard drive of 240 gb separated into 2 120 gb partitions. I don't think I've ever seen a laptop with the physical space to install 2 hard drives internally.

And as far as the hard drives go, I think you're right. I don't see how they could have installed 2 separate drives into a laptop, but I'm just going off of what the previous owner told me (I bought it off the internet).

240gb is about 50000 songs and 350 full length movies (depending on quality of course). You should be fine for now.

Wow. So if I wanted to save around 200 hours of video and 500-ish songs, that would work fine?

I should have also mentioned that I will be running Photoshop on the computer as well. I'm just thinking that if I am going to upgrade the hard drive, I might as well do it now before I start saving stuff. That way I won't have the hassle of transferring all of my data from the 240GB hard drive to an external hard drive, and then from the external drive back onto the upgraded one. But I don't know whether or not I need to upgrade, so I'm kind of in a bind right now. Haha.

Dell XPS 2010 takes two hard drives. I have one.

And to the OP, 240 gig is fine.. unless you are downloading Anthony's Flames highlight vids.

It's not worth it to buy super high-capacity laptop drivers. Why not just go for an external drive?

If this stuff is important to you (ie. family pictures), you should buy an external drive anyways or back this stuff up some other way and not have everything in one basket. If you take the laptop outside the home there is a chance your laptop will get stolen, damaged or whatever.
