1 - how many weeks you're getting:
3 weeks - but in reality, nobody gets to use them because it's too busy. I used about 2 weeks in the past 2 years, plus I have a over a month of banked time (150 hours) accumulated that I dip into now and then, plus a month of available holiday time.
2 - Industry: Environmental Consulting - project scientist.
3 - Years experience and years at current company: 3 years experience, 2 at current company
4 - Employee or Contractor: Salaried employee.
5 - did you negotiate for more than standard when interviewing: No
6 - City/Country you're in: Prince George/Canada
7 - Do you get flex days or personal days, and if so, how many per year?
Yes, but I can't remember how many. I have never taken a personal or sick day, so I'd have to look it up.

I'm just curious how many weeks holidays you'll be getting in 2009.
Things I'd like to compare:
1 - how many weeks your getting.
2 - Industry.
3 - Years experience and years at current company.
4 - Employee or Contractor.
5 - did you negotiate for more than standard when interviewing.
6 - City/Country your in.
7 - Do you get flex days or personal days, and if so, how many per year?
(I'm more interested in Calgary market, but a international or country wide comparison might be interesting too.)
|
1. As many as I want.
2. Equipment Sales.
3. 7 years
4. Employee paid by commission.
5. Wasn't much to negotiate. The way it was worded to me "your a commission salesman. Take as much time as you want, but bear in mind that if your not selling you won't be making any money.".
6. Red Deer.
7. I don't have Flex days. I just take a day when ever I need to.
My first job out of college was with a multinational company. I got three weeks vacation right from the start.

I'm a little suprised by these results.
2 weeks: 3
3 weeks: 11
4 weeks: 11
5+ weeks: 5
It seems to me the standard when starting at a company is 3 weeks. Although most of the people on here seem well educated...I guess the give away is their on a computer during work hours. Not many mechanics and labourers can respond to this thread right now I guess.
I'm happy with my 2 weeks and when it goes up to 3, I don't even know if i'll use it all. Unless you have somewhere to go, sitting around at home is not something I enjoy. It's nice to take some time to read and such, but if I had to stay home for 3 weeks in the summer i'd die of bordem. I'd have to plan a lot of stuff...work on my car...go mountain biking..build a deck...do anything to occupy me. What the hell do you guys with 5 or 6 weeks do for that amount of time?

6 - City/Country your in Calgary/Uraguay.
Forgot to add - 5 flex days, cannot use more than 2 at a time, they can be attached to vacation days.

Agreed Worth. I can't afford to be taking 3 or 4 weeks off a year and actually do something with my time. I seem to carry a week or two over every year so I generally have 5 weeks to kill. I have 24 days still to kill this year. I end up taking a lot of long weekends or Wednesdays off just because.

Wow, finding things to do with my time off has never been a problem. Getting time off to do all of the things I want to do is much more difficult. Feel free to pass those extra days you need to "kill" my way.
