I rode a sport bike for about 3 years. I never had any real close calls. I am very very aware of my surroundings when I ride, but you are definitely at the mercy of the guy in his BMW emailing on blackberry. I haven't lost any friends to a motorcycle accident yet, but the ones who got hurt did it to themselves. I am too chicken to try and do stunts, which I am sure is a good thing.

I got into a scooter accident in Puerto Vallarta and got cut up really bad. I slid across the road and almost fell 80 feet down an excavation pit. When I got back to Calgary, I listed my bike for sale. I had my fun. I got the experience I wanted. Now it was time to start a family, and I wanted to be there for that.

A saying I have heard from bikers is "it's not if you get into an accident, but when."

When you combine an old lady driving and a guy going too fast on his motor bike you…someone’s getting cut in half

Wow, as morbid as it sounds, I couldn't stop laughing after reading this. Now I feel so bad...

A buddy of mine says the same thing except "how bad will it be" he's the one that got his leg smashed in a safeway parking lot. so much for fender benders!

I was driving north on Deerfoot around 4 pm on Monday June 30. It was a holiday, so traffic wasn't as heavy as usual, but it was still pretty busy. Two d-bags on crotch rockets, wearing jeans and Tshirts were popping wheelies all the way up the stretch between Peigan and 17th.
I admit that I was hoping that one of them made themselves an example to the other.

My buddy said if you ride a bike, you have to ride assuming no-one can see you, since many times that is indeed the case.

I have a co-worker that rides a scooter to work every day in rush hour traffic. Thats just asking for trouble.

A guy I went to high-school with died 3 or 4 months after his grad (I was a year older), I just remember being shocked, and thankful I never heard the gory details.

On the other hand, I unfortunately heard way too much about a guy a couple years younger who got hit by a bus downtown the day of his grad. Stepped out the side door of a minivan right into a bus screaming down Howe St.
