Haha I think they forgot to turn off the webcam. Now all it's showing is the wood table that the squid used to be lying on. Now THAT'S exciting television!!

Bump. "Colossal Squid was a docile blob, not T-Rex of the sea."

http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/0...quid-blob.html

The article says it will be put on display in a special tank at Wellington, NZ's Te Papa Museum. That is a fantastic museum, I wish they had this on display when I was there.

Oh no, it was a big baby mama squid, I feel terrible now. She was just munching on a snack when the fishing trawler pulled her in and froze her.

I feel so old, I remember the days these creatures were just a fishermans imagination getting the best of him. My dad and a few of his friends actually saw a live one in the 70's, It scared the crap out of them and nobody believed them. Then a 33 footer washed up on a beach a year later and all of a sudden they were hero's

This is amazing! The colossal squid and bigfoot both found in the same week!
First one captured in tact, its amazing that after so many years this is the first one landed.

Makes you wonder what else is down there? I wonder why they decided to start coming so close to the surface?
Probably the giant line it was caught on.

This thing wasn't caught at the surface, it was caught where they normally hang out, it's not like these things have just recently decided to come up to the surface and have a look around.

Ironic that we can land on Mars but can't even reach the bottom of our own oceans, Ingiginous people probably hunted these things centuries if not thousands of years ago, there's probably even something out there that eats Collossal Squid.

Wait, what??

Are you talking about people indigenous to 3,300 feet or more below the surface of Antarctic waters?

Yup, I just watched a program on Discovery yesterday all about the Sperm whale. It was pretty sweet with lots of good CGI following the 80 year life of one whale. It munched on some colossal squid in Antarctica.

I laughed at that too, those evil mean whalers get what's coming to them in the form of a hurricane that takes 'em to the deep!

Still a pretty sweet documentary, those sperm whales are pretty tough suckers.
