Default Laptop screen is screwed

The other day I was on my laptop and all of a sudden I stated getting these weird lines going through my screen. The whole screen was wonky almost like the horizontal hold was screwed up. Then after a while the screen just went dark.

I left it for the night and turned it on again the next day it was fine for a while and then started doing the same thing. I did notice it wouldn't be as bad when I unplugged it from the wall and just let it run on battery power. That really seemed to help but it would screw up again when I plugged it back in. Eventually it just went black again though.

Any ideas on WTF is going on? Could it be overheating or something? Why would the power cord affect it like that?

Most likely it is the LCD inverter has become loose.

I don't get the horizontal lines and all that jazz, but occasionally, my laptop screen will look black, but there's actually a really faint image of what's on the screen (you have to really strain and look super close to make it out).

The problem stays if I reboot with the AC adapter plugged in but disappears if I reboot without the AC plugged in.

This isn't your problem exactly, but it seems similar. Have you tried rebooting without your laptop plugged in? Reboot it, give it a minute or so and then plug it in... seems to work for me but I'm not sure why!

It's likely improving when you unplug it because your monitor should dim somewhat when it goes to battery power only, less power is being pumped through the monitor.

This is one of your brothers old work laptops, isn't it? I doubt it's a heat issue but rather getting close to the expected life span.

That is the same issue as I have. The screen goes black (eventually after all the other crap happens for a while) but I can see a very fain image of what is on the screen.
