Default Taber Corn Fest

So a few buddies and myself, after a couple pints last night, decided to do something different and we're kicking around the idea of going to this. It could be kinda funny, and coming from a small town I know what kind of shenanigans people get into in the beer gardens.

That being said, has anyone here ever been to this thing? What would 5 fellas and a few ladies expect to do down there? Am I going to get run out of town by the locals and their pitch forks? How are the bands? Female prospects? I'm hauling an RV down....can I park it anywhere, or can someone recommend a campground?

I have no idea why we're going, other than to get the heck outta Calgary for a weekend, but at the same time I don't feel like going down and fighting my way out of Taber.

Having lived in Taber for a few years myself, I'll tell you cornfest is only fun if you're a local.

It's like if forest lawn had a beer gardens, would you goto that?

Don't go... it ain't fun. Unless you really really like corn. Take the RV through the pass instead. There would be more to do there.

Hmmmm well that kind of changes things. Although one of the reasons I'm going is to try and hook up with a waitress from the city I picked up the other night, who is heading down with a friend and has nowhere to stay. Hellooooooooo queen size bed in my RV....

Someone told me that there's something like 20 000 people that go to this thing. WTF...is that all lies? Is there even female in the area with a full set of teeth?

20,000? Uh... riiggght. It's only a town of 8,000. Whoop-Up days in Lethbridge are way better than the Taber Corn Fest. Unless you like the small town country fair thing. You know what? Just go... might as well. If you have nothing better to do, what's better than watching people stuff their face and coveralls with corn and listen to some bad local music.

Oh, and the action with the waitress of course. Cheaper than hookers and blow, that's for sure.

LOL@20,000

Lethbridge is having their annual "whoop-up days" the same weekend I believe, which will cut down on cornfests showing by a lot.

The music at cornfest is 3-4 hours of country bands playing covers of country songs.

I am obviously alone in this...but some of the dutch girls out that way are pretty hot! (That is if you like fit, blond women....which are fine with me!).

I would think that its not the greatest place to go as an outsider, but no one is going to run you out of town or anything like that. Its probably as fun as you make it!

whoop up days started this week with the parade, rides and such began Thursday night. Friday and Saturday its pretty fun there, a lot better than cornfest you really can't even compare the two.

Depends on how serious I was about a death wish.

Dont go to this. Unless you really love corn. Then buy some at the grocery store and still dont go to this.

Plus if you really love taber corn you can buy it off the side of the road anywhere in southern Alberta.

When I was living in Taber there was an out of towner at the local tavern(Taber calls it a club, "The Oilman's Club") not sure what the disagreement was about, girls or drugs who knows, but the guy ended up in the hospital needing re-constructive face surgery after the Taberites were finished with him.

I try to avoid making foodstuff purchases by roadside.

That can happen in any small town. I have seen plenty of outsiders get the living snot kicked out of them in the small town I grew up in. Thing is, as long as your not a cocky jerk, you will be fine. People are always tough in numbers.

I think he means an intense wind and hail storm wiped out most the Taber Corn in July. Corn sellers must be getting corn from other sources.
