Well the gaps in between the Calgary and Edmonton shows are nothing, if not interesting. Not saying Winnipeg could/would necessarily be slid in there, but second shows in both Calgary and Edmonton seem possible.

I'd say second shows in Calgary and Edmonton are probably more likely than a show in Winnipeg but you never know. I think they'll most likely go to Winnipeg in the middle of next year like they did in 04.

Definately getting tickets for the Calgary show. Missed them both times back in 2004, won't miss them this time. I see Lamb Of God is opening for them, makes the show even better.
Metallica and Lamb Of God in the same night = pure awesomeness.

Does anyone know/have they released info on when tickets will go on sale? I just hope it is after August 30, since my whole family will be in Europe at the time and won't be able to buy any.
I saw them in 2004, but didn't enjoy it (too young and ignorant). I hope I can get tickets...

No idea, the rock radio station up here isn't even willing to officially announce the concert. The only word is from the Metallica camp directly.

From their website
"Keep watching here for all ticket on sale dates and times . . . coming very soon. See you out there!"

I'm just saying that Napster was the first, and IMO the best file sharing program there was. Now that torrents exist, and all that, it's a little different, but I still will not get over the good old days!

I really never got what was so great about Napster and I used it before the lawsuit happened. I guess we just have a difference of opinion when it comes to downloading. When a program or a site gets shutdown I just move on to the next and it doesn't bother me cause I believe that musicians and companies have a right to control how their work is distributed. And really that's what the Napster case came down to. Metallica felt there right to control when their material is released was violated with I Disappear being leaked before it was even 100% complete so they decided to do something about it. Lars just went too overboard with it cause he doesn't know when to shutup sometimes and burned some bridges with music fans.

I'd have to say the biggest loss was the shutdown of Oink!
That is perhaps the greatest file sharing torrent website ever made.

Here's a low quality clip of a song from the album. It's real cause I listened to the high quality clip on MissionMetallica.

This may be the first Metallica album I buy since Justice.
Edit: I just listened to some of the samples on youtube. I know I'm buying this album for sure now. God, how I've been dieing for an album that makes me want to say "Welcome back!"
Ever since a bunch of us crowded around my buddy's TV in '92 to see the video for the "new Metallica song." You should have seen the look on our faces when Enter Sandman started playing. It was like we'd all been shot... That was the day the Metal died.
Man, I hope this album is what I've been hearing it's supposed to be.

It's too bad this couldn't come out for guitar hero: on tour. I don't really like the ghIII controller and would love to use my rock band guitar (which will be compatible with GH:OT)
Very interesting means of distributing music. I'm not a huge metallica fan, but this might be something I'd pick up.

1991. I was disappointed as hell. At the time I was 18 and was working at a gas station for the summer. I talked to so many people that picked up the album the first day it was released. Pretty much everyone was disappointed. I remember one guy saying "they were a kick ass metal band and this new album is just gay".

I have to admit, I have no understanding of Metallica fans, especially the old school ones. Isn't the Black album recognized as a classic?
Like fanIn80 stating the first 3 minutes of the new song suck...so should the entire 8 minute song be full of speed riffs and shredding? Should entire Metallica albums be full of that?
I'm not a Metallica fan so I'm not trying to defend them or anything, but it seems to me that more than any group of fans, the older Metallica fans just can't accept them straying from their orignal metal sound. Which I find really strange because I tend to favour artists that push into different territory as their career progresses.

YES!!
That's exactly what Metallica was before the Black Album... and the Black Album is only considered a "classic" by people who would have never been caught dead listening to Metallica before it was released.
Metallica, to me, has put out 5 albums: Kill em All, Lightning, Puppets, Garage Days and Justice. That's it. Hopefully, this new album becomes their 6th.
It's important to realize that, when talking about Metallica, we're talking about a band that practically invented an entire genre of music... and then, 5 albums into their career, completely turned their backs on the entire genre and the millions of fans that loved their music.
We're not talking about Bon Jovi getting old and switching to acoustic guitars here. I mean, Metallica literally became something completely different overnight.
It's like imagine waking up tomorrow and reading in the newspaper that the Flames have decided they are no longer a hockey team, and that they will enter into the professional team-badminton ranks starting this September.
I imagine they'll pick up a ton of fans that LOVE badminton and some may call them the "best badminton team they've ever seen," and that the year they won that Badminton Cup was a "classic" year. They'll probably sell a ton of badminton jerseys and get lots of hot badminton loving chicks, and they'll probably get more face-time on TV, amongst the badminton crowd... and most of those people will completely HATE anything to do with hockey, and would never in a million years have been caught dead watching the Flames before they started playing badminton.
I guarantee every single hockey-loving Flames fan will be completely crushed...just like every single metalhead in '91 was crushed.
Edit: I know "Garage Days" wasn't technically an album, but it still kicked ass. I'm not talking about that pansy "Greatest Hits" Garage Days they released a couple years ago, either. I mean the one from '88 that bridged Puppets and Justice.
