Cineplex To Offer XBOX 360 Gaming Sessions @ $179
Cineplex big screens available to Xbox gamers
Quote:
Cineplex Entertainment is renting out downtime at its theatres to video gamers looking to play their Xbox 360 titles on a giant screen.
Beginning on Friday, gamers will be able to book two-hour sessions at 29 Cineplex theatres across the country for $179 plus taxes. Up to 12 people will be allowed into the session to play their own games, or those from a supplied library, on the theatre's giant screen with surround sound. The Xbox 360, however, can only accommodate four players at a time.

Not bad at all if you split it up among 12 people... about $15.50 each... approximately the same price as an IMAX movie.
I will be doing this at some point.

Interesting, but I bet the quality sucks. Don't they just use a normal lcd projector for the pre-movie advertising crap? My guess is they just hook the 360 up to it, so no HD.
I suppose it would still be pretty damn cool though.

When I worked at the Science Center, we used to play NHL 04 (I think it was that year) on the IMAX-style dome theatre. Four players was ridiculous.

Nope... Cineplex says, "We has High-Res!"
Quote:
The move to offer video games is the result of years of testing by Cineplex. The theatre chain has been holding one-off gaming sessions and special events in partnership with Microsoft for more than three years, Marshall said. The move also couldn't have happened without new digital projectors that are capable of displaying games in high resolution.

I want to do a big NHL 09 tournament at this for CP members! Who's with me?
While of course we could just play each other online, playing face to face on a big screen would be a blast!

This could be fun. Especially if we can bring in our own drinks!

I'm betting no on the "own drinks" thing.

Even though it says Hi Res, it's probably not the same projectors as you watch a movie with.
Don't those still use film reel?

Most of the newer theatres would probably have digital projectors, as the 3 starwars prequels were released on digitial stock for distribution to theatres. There's also the fact that Cineplex is trying to get the business crowd in for presentations, so they would have to get equivalently powerful digital projectors for the powerpoint slides.
