East Africa continues to dominate at men's long distance.

Top 7 finishes and 9 out of the top 10 spots in the 10,000M final.

I don't have a lot of time to update today, but it looks like a very slow day for Canada today.

Cockburn and Mclennan go in the tramponline finals where they're currently placed 4th and 3rd.

Flatwater canoe/kayak get going today, and three Canadian boats race in preliminaries, most notably Van Koeverden in the 1000m.

Both the baseball and softball teams play Japan tonight in must win situations.

Despatie starts tonight in the 3m.

Christopher has the 400m preliminaries.

Also, on the cycling track, Gina Grain will be competing in the points race final.

3 Canadian women will also be going for a triathlon medal.

The ref didn't follow the rules - he was supposed to deduct points for holding after the first deduction, but only issued warnings later. The Thai boxer was lucky - the Kazakh fighter was much busier. We just don't get how points are awarded in Olympic boxing. Seems like lots of good shots are not getting counted.

Yeah, I could understand why he'd have been upset (and I don't know much about boxing).

Well octothorp was right. Blythe Hartley choked, and pretty much just confirmed her retirement. Quitter.

Yeah, I just see diving as a sport where it's really difficult to be consistent at the best of times and one bad jump can ruin any shot at the medals. And Hartley, she's got some amazing ability, but is more inconsistent than some of the other contenders. Combine that with the fact that expectations for Canada's diving program are really high based on past success, but now even Canada's best are in really tough to medal; it all just added up to a recipe for disappointment.

Blythe finished 4th. She's ranked 4th in the world. I'm not quite sure how that's choking. What's choking is the Chinese gymnast who is ranked number one in the world on vault and landed on her knees. Sure, Blythe didn't medal, but it's not like she tanked. And yes, after 3 Olympics and the death of her brother this year, she has decided to retire.

Yeah, but she had a shot at a medal and blew it with a big splash on her last dive. She had the ability to do it but failed due to poor execution. To me that still qualifies as a choke.

Liu Xiang hurt his ankle/achilles in training and tried to run the 110m hurdles. Couldn't even get out of the blocks and is done.

I wonder how much diving you have ever watched before this Olympics. I wonder how you consider 8.5's on a dive to be poor execution. In fact, if you do any sort of research on diving, you would know that anything above 8.5 is considered a VERY good dive. And considering that the judges were not giving out many tens, she couldn't have done much better. Other divers performed better than she did. There was no choking about it. Every diver going into the finals had a chance at a medal. Not all of them choked. 10 points out of 3rd place is NOTHING in diving. She was close, but not close enough. It wasn't a perfect performance, but it wasn't bad or anything near a choke. Do you consider the wrestler who lost in the Bronze medal match a choker? She was damn close to a medal but lost.

Well, the Canadian men lost 1-0 to Japan in baseball.

Their best opportunity to score was when they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, but couldn't get anything going.

That pretty much seals their fate as far as advancing goes.
