Phelps 7th Gold? Is the fix in?
Kind of strange result. Its obvious the Serb won under normal conditions.
I think it was one of those things lilke you see in the 100m where the guy who puts his head forward wins rather than the one who actually should win.
I love this post on ESPN:
Aquaman wears Michael Phelps pajamas

They use an electronic touch pad to determine the winners. Phelps touched first and won. No fix there.
Of course the Serbs filed a protest. Not sure how they expect to win that one.

Sometimes is swimming you can have a soft touch on the wall (usually when you glide in as apposed to hitting it hard).
You can tell on the reply that the Serb was mm's away from touching the way while Phelps' last stroke was timed perfect.
Even with saying that it is not like someone pushes a button on a stop watch or clock (like at some smaller meets), it is all based on the wall's touch pad.

The serb has only himself to blame he started gliding to early. He needed one more stroke.
That being said Phelps is quite lucky on 2 of his golds this year. Both the French and the serb made mistakes at the finish.

Do you think his ears slow him down?
Good thing he has a cap to cover them....

It's obvious you were not watching closely, Phelps won. Calling it a fix is weak.

That finish was unreal, it absolutely looked like Phelps was second and just like that he got his hands to the wall...
I cannot see how you can fix a swimming meet, other than by paying off the other participants to lose...

Did you watch it?
If there is no electronic touch pad the Serb wins no question. I dont think it was a fix but to say the Serb didnt deserve it gives Aquaman to much cred.
I figured the thread title would entice some of our ultra Liberal Amera haters on this site.

I'll trust the electronic pad since my eyes can't tell... even from these blown up photos.

So the fix is in because they have touch pads that tell the actual results versus the wrong results?

Picture 5 looks like Cavic is touching but picture 6 shows that he is about a cm away at the same point Phelps' hands are bending against the wall.

Why would the serb deserve it? he lost, he was slower than phelps. Under normal conditions? If we measured .01 seconds with the naked eye there would be far too many mistakes.

cavic really should have won, he cost himself the race with that extra long reach and coast to the wall in the end which allowed phelps to get there just ahead of him. tough loss for him for sure, but phelps went right to the end. good stuff.

Are you kidding? in picture 5 phelps fingers are bending backwards from applying pressure to the wall.
Phelps won fair and square, it wasn't fixed, his compeditor made the wrong decision, simple as that.
People should have a little more discipline about declaring something fixed. And if you say all you are doing is asking the question, then the response is, that its a question not worth asking in the first place.

it's an electronic switch, first to touch the pad wins. how is this even up for debate? maybe if this happened years ago and it was up to the human eye to judge, but a computer system isn't biased

There should not be a million swimming events. How about one medal for best overall swimmer, and one medal for best swim team?

Well, what do you say to the numerous track events? Do you not agree that 100m sprint is different from 100m hurdles, or a 10,000m run?
I'm not a swimming fan either but a lot of those competitions require different skills.
