And then listen to everyone at home bash you for not medaling and finishing 57th

What about Team Handball goalie? All you have to do is a jumping jack every time someone shoots, and hope it hits you.

There is a major misconception in this thread.

Equestrian:
Not one of you could train for 4 years and make the olympics in this sport. Not a single one.

Yes, the horse does the jumping, but it is the rider that controls where they take off from. The olympic jumps are 1.60m high. The margin of error for where to take off from is about an inch. These riders can control their horse's stride to take off from exactly that spot. Err on either side of that and the jump comes down.

There are thousands of Canadians training for this sport 6+ hours a day, and it's still the same group at the top - Miller, Lamaze, Henselwood, Asselin, Cone and a few others. Why, because they're the best. There's a reason Ian Miller has the olympic record for most appearances (something stupid like 9). It takes an unbelievable combination of skill, luck, experience and one hell of a horse.

Equestrain isn't fair because the richer you are the better horse you can afford how is that in the spirit of the olympics. The playing field should be as close to level as possible most other events everyone is competing with similar equipment or none at all but a good horse will give you a huge advantage.

Amazing how easy some people in this thread think it is. So much of every sport in the olympics is genetics, and the other massive portion is skill which many of the athletes have been developing for years and years. Unless you have the ultimate genitics for one of these events and you just never knew it, there is no way in hell you're going to train for a couple years and be in London before you know it.

Equestrian is the answer to a trivia question most people do not know.
Name the only Olympic Sport where both Male and female athletes compete for the same Gold Medal!

My friend and I had this conversation about 5 years ago and we concluded that best shot at going to the Olympics would be speed walking. All you would have to do is beat "the other guy" who actually competes in this event. I mean who does this in Canada? Train for a year go up against the one or two other guys who speed walk in Canada and Voila you're Canada's outside shot at a Medal!

Winter Olympics would have to be two man luge. Again based on numbers alone you only have to beat 1 or 2 other teams to be Canada's representative.

(this doesn't take into account world standings. This idea was based on Eddie the Eagle type qualification i.e. be your countries only representative and your off to the games)

Not if you are going faster.

Don't you regularly place uninvited tongues in cheeks?

I'm guessing a lot of the posts in here are in jest (ie. the Ping Pong not being hard, etc). Actually, any sport is really hard to get good at. I mean, not that its a sport, but I do dishes and put away cups, therefore I guess I can stack cups. But I'm sure I'd get destroyed by those crazy cup stackers I see on Youtube. Same principle applies here.

I remember part of Jerry Seinfeld's old act was how easy it would be to compete in the luge. Hang on for dear life and point your toes. Good to go. I guess the skeleton would be of similar nature as well.

Sort of off topic, but am I the only one that thinks golf, wakeboarding and waterskiing should be olympic sports?

Heh I remember that skit. You can win a gold medal in luge against your will.

I don't want to see golf in the Olympics. There's no room in the Olympics for a scowling, pouting, and swearing Tiger Woods.

Yea, that guy's terrible what a chump.

Golf should be an Olympic sport, there are other sports in the Olympics that are quite questionable so I don't see why they wouldn't add it.
