If you are smoking pot a few times a week I think that is beyond "casually". I would say you are a regular pot smoker. Not that it really makes a difference.

Also I've watched a crackberry user almost walk out into oncoming traffic he was so engrossed in staring at his stupid little screen.

I'm pretty sure I've played after you! Or we are actually on the same team...
I have lots of friends that smoke pot but I have found that their partaking has lessened as they've gotten older and started families.
I usually only see it after hockey or ball and rarely partake as that stuff can mess me up. I am the perma-grin guy and I don't like having the sore forehead (not headache) for the day afterwards.

If its treated like an intoxicant then I don't personally care. But the same rules have to apply to pot smoking as liquor. Driving under the influence etc.
I still think if your caught providing or selling to underagers though you end up in jail or heavily fined.

I don't particularly care. I don't smoke, and don't like the smell of it, so I prefer if others smoke it away from me.
That being said, it seems like one of those things that you should grow out of.. Past 25, you probably need to grow up and quit the pot.

But I know people that have a hard time chilling out without a toke, and I don't think that they're wasting their time on it. Much like any minor drug it comes down to the people who use it and how they use it.

There is a big difference - cannabis is illegal, and books, movies, game and television are not.
Even if it was legal, how does sitting around, smoking a joint and self-indulging make yourself a better person? Or your neighbor? Seems pretty selfish to me. I don't know any one person who smokes marijuana because they want to make everyone else's lives better. Books, movies, games and televisions are also forms of self-indulgence, but at least you can learn something from it.
I'm not say weed sucks, but there is absolutely no reason to be smoking it on your own time by yourself between daily activities. That's just lame.

Yeah, I think after a certain age you become "that dude". You know, the guy who all the 14-19 year old stoner kids look up to and thinks is all radical and cool but the rest of society pities.

I'm not averse to it in any way. I've been to enough concerts that the smell doesnt bother me, I have no problem having a little under acceptable circumstances, but I have never, and likely never will, go out of my obtain it, and my experience therein is very limited.
Furthermore, other people taking part around me doesnt bother me either, if they get to the point that they're messed then yes, its no fun being there anymore, but the same goes for booze.
Have you ever shown up at a party where everyone was loser-drunk by the time you got there? Not much fun. You can try and catch up, but you typically dont want to because by the time you get there you'll be calling an ambulance for everybody else. Besides, power drinking to get the job done isnt any fun either. For me and booze the journey is the fun part.
But I do have one word of caution. Weed makes being bored acceptable/fun.
For most people, when they're bored they'll attempt to find something to do. Some people just blaze and being bored is just fine.
This almost ruined a very good friend of mine. He was a very talented guy with a lot of free time. When he got bored he would pick up an instrument and over the years he learned to play Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano and even the Accordion for a time. He also was into art, he'd paint, draw or sculpt to pass time. When he got into weed it all stopped for a number of years because instead of putting his time into something productive he'd just blaze up and sit there staring at the walls or marveling at the awesomeness of his feet.
He is still not the same guy now that hes quit but hes getting better.
So, be careful, it can be dangerous by curbing ambition and enthusiasm.

i feel the same way about regular smokers. if you're past your mid 20's and still buy a pack of smokes every week, you need to grow up

Nice quick edit there, Cuda
I would say drinking is a completely different class of drug, given it's history, effects, and broad acceptance of it in society. Alot of people just drink because they enjoy the taste or is a good social device, but weed will just get you...high. And if it doesn't, you're probably smoking too much.

Epic derail? I think this topic and thread have merit, lets not go off topic too far. I can see the arguments for and against this coming already.
Cigarettes and Weed are 2 totally different ballgames.

I also had a problem last winter with one of the kids I was coaching at the time showing up for practices and games stoned.
Here is a situation for you: I had a 14 year old kid show up to 2 practices and 1 game stoned despite my numerous private warnings not to. My assistant coaches (parents aged say, 35-45) didnt even notice.
Tell me what you'd do and then I'll tell you what I did. I guarantee you I didnt do the 'right' thing as many here will undoubtedly proclaim.

how so? they're both plants that you can smoke, they disturb others around who don't partake, they're both something you try as a stupid, impressionable teenager, and they both have negative social stigmas attached to them. the only difference is one is a legal multi-billion dollar industry, and the other is under the table
if you're gonna call a guy in his 30's a loser who needs to grow up and quit smoking pot, then i'm gonna call a guy in his 30's who buys a pack of cigarettes every few days a loser who needs to grow up and quit wasting money

a guy who goes home and has a beer after work (me) and a guy who goes home after work and smokes a joint are the same thing in my book

Just to play "devil's advocate," is alcohol also one of those things that one would need to grow out of past the age of 25?

I'm not going to get into it because thats not really what I think this thread is about, especially once one delves into the dubious nature regarding the addiction factor surrounding marijuana.
And I agree with you, a guy that comes home from work and has a beer/joint is a lateral move in my books too. What about a guy who has both?

I think certainly, in the case of 'overuse' or 'use solely to get completely wasted', the answer would be yes. I guess in a situation where your entire personality is based around the use of a hallucinogen, or you end up as "that guy" as was mentioned earlier.
