Default Question to iPhone users regarding Rogers/Fido Hotspots

Does anyone recall at the time they bought their phones whether Rogers/Fido hotspots would be free to iPhone users? I swear I've read somewhere that they would be free to access....But today I tried to log into one and it said this hotspot will be remaining free for another 145 days...aka...Dec. 31 2008. Has Rogers went back on their word to offer access to these things or am I out to lunch?

With the 6GB data plan (which I assume you have), why do you want the wifi hotspots?

I am actually tempted to disable my wifi, because I find that the popups asking me if I want to connect are a bit annoying. Also, I have read that the constant searching for wifi drains the battery.

i have mine on and it doesn't drain the battery at all. Why not though. I mean I am not going to go to a place specifically for wifi but if it has it I will connect.

Why not? Because of the annoying prompts. Most times I use the iPhone, it picks up a new network. Often they are secured, and occasionally they just don't work of you do select them. So, I finally disabled the prompts today. It will only connect to recognized networks (e.g. my network at home). This won't improve my battery life, but at least it will stop annoying me.

I'll probably set it up to connect to wifi connections to places I frequent that have free wifi. But I would only do it in situation where I know I am likely to be back.

it goes by name too i noticed, someone near my buddies house has their name as linksys and so does my sister so because hers is named linksys then it automatically connected me. I get it asking me sometimes asking about wifi. My battery barely moves so I don't think it kills the battery, and it takes 2 seconds to click cancel, when it prompts you, but i guess some things annoy some people and not others.

It's faster than 3G...Seems like a good enough reason to want to use them.
