Since Carlson was already used as well there's really no one reliable enough on the Jays to work out the scenario I posted.

Pitching on both sides was horrendous.

When the Jays have awesome pitching, the bats go dead. When they're actually hitting, either BJ blows up or the starter has a meltdown. Yesterday the latter two scenarios were in play.

JPR should have jumped on Marcum + Snider for Jason Bay. Unbelievable that this man still has a job.

Disagree with the trade. I don't neccessarily agree with what Ricciardi is doing or has done, but that would be another short term type fix that doesn't offer a great deal in terms of an upgrade, and would just keep the team in the same mediocre way. Right now the Jays have Rios, Wells, and Lind when healthy to patrol the outfield. They could use another DH next year or at least a platoon guy to go with Stairs. But I don't know if Bay offers enough for them to give up a starting pitcher when it's very likely they're already losing Burnett next year.

The Jays need to look at teams like the Indians and A's who are willing to trade MLB talent in seasons when the team is not competing for the Division in hopes to assemble enough players to make a run at a later date. If anything the Jays need to continue beefing up their farm system and player development.

Any time you see some in-depth Blue Jays story, with off-the-record details, in one of the big papers, online sites or magazines, chances are Ricciardi is the one doing the talking. Did he leak details of his negotiations with the Mariners to the media ahead of time? Maybe jump the gun a little enthusiastically? And in the end, make it look like it was the M's who couldn't pull the trigger on a deal, instead of him maybe not going along with one of their scenarios?

Hey, who knows? I wasn't in the room. But based on past evidence, I'd say it's entirely possible.
Ricciardi borrowing a page from Kevin Lowe? "We had a deal, but it just didn't get done"

I'd be screaming bloody murder if he took that trade.

A little late here, but I agree. Marcum is a fine young pitcher, and Snider is a top prospect league-wide. What the Pirates ended up getting from the Dodgers and Sox, in my opinion, does not even approach what they were (apparently) offering to the Jays.

Honestly though, I'd be happy if the Jays draw a line in the sand and pick a side - buyers or sellers. Every year they're in the exact same situation and every year they do absolutely nothing. And predictably they finish exactly where they were at the trade deadline. Even though I think it's stupid for them to be buyers it's a hell of a lot better than standing pat after so many years of doing so.
Even if they shipped out players and got some young AAA talent in return it would at least do something for them down the road. I just don't get why they never move one way or the other at this time of the year.

To me it seems like management trying to keep heat off themselves for making bad moves. With the Jays, at this point almost any move would be a good one....who knows maybe seeing a teammate shipped off would wake some of these guys up a bit.

Great to see the Jays win all four games against the A's.

It sure helps that the A's have completely packed it in for the season. This is the kind of A's team I was expecting to see all season long. Too little too late for the Jays.

Sure, but it would be great to see them make a huge push.... Not to mention Wells should be back early next week...

Shhh... you can't say that on CP. This is the greatest team ever assembled. They have the Yanks, Sox, Rays, Twins, Chi-Sox, Angels, Tigers etc. just where they want them.

Don't know who you're referring to but generally I find CP very pessimistic toward the Jays.

Anyhoo.... will be interesting to see how the Jays perform with V-dub back in the line-up. They haven't been terrible without him!

I think the Jays play better without Wells in the lineup.
