Default Rangers continue to move players around

In a minor move the Rangers sent Matt Cooke to the Oilers for a second round pick.

This move was done for the purpose of creating more cap space to work with..... Cap space this year looks golden.....

Now the Rangers believe they have cap space to buy a UFA.....

Yeah, it's really hard to project what you will and won't be able to do with cap space. It does give you a lot of options though.

Realistically though...if you couldn't trade Pisani for anything...but you could trade Cooke for a 2nd, than use that cap space to sign Pisani or an equivilent guy as a UFA...you do come out ahead. Involves a bit more risk, but the oppurtunity for reward is there.

Will they have anything left to pay their RFA guys?

It would be a shame to have RFA's sign for too cheap because their team has no money left to sign them.

The Flames hate all this chit chat about cap space and money.

Something tells me you guys are talking about someone in particular...

No brainer of a move here. Regardless of his past as a hated Canuck in the NHL, I'm a Matt Cooke fan. I've said it time and time again. You can have a great roster on paper, but when it comes down to it, you need to have roll players in the right spot to make sure the line up has balance.

We needed a player like Matt Cooke to balance out the lineup.

So the Oilers lineup now looks like:

Zetterburg - Lecavalier - Iginla
Gagne - Sharp - Hossa
Cooke - Novotny - Dumont
Perrin - ? - Vermette
Hilbert

Rivet - Montador
Lukowich - Straskins
? - Russell

Brodeur
Lalime

We are currently 1.3M over our roster cap, short a dman, and have 3 RFAs left to sign (Vermette, Hilbert, Montador). To some that would cause a panic attack, but I am confident with a few more moves, we'll be in a better position when the puck drops.

Its a good move for sure..... Rangers knew they had no chance to sign all of the RFAs and to acquire another potential UFA... If there were to many expensive role players...... Now I hope I can find affortable 3rd / 4th liners.....

How many offers did you get when you offered a 3rd round pick for like 2 million in cap space again?

How many GM's laughed at you?

Which number is greater, that should tell you all you need to know about cap space.

I have a few ideas up my sleeve. You're offer is one of them.
