2008 College Football Thread
The 2008 College Football season is less than a month away, so I figured it was time to start the discussion!
The most recent rankings I could find are linked here:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/column...ark&id=3459463
1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Oklahoma
4. USC
5. Florida
I think this is the season that the SEC cannibalizes itself. They have 5 teams in the top 15, and the even numbered years are the toughest for defending champ LSU. They play road games at Florida, Auburn, South Carolina, and Arkansas.
LSU has a weak non-conference schedule as well, playing no BCS conference teams (App. St., Troy, N. Texas, Tulane) though App. St. and Troy are no slouches. Add in the questions at QB, and I think they are likely out of the BCS picture. The Tigers have the talent to beat anybody, but it will be a challenge to put it all together this season.
Personally, I think Ohio State will play either USC or Oklahoma for the crystal football in January. With no SEC team represented in the BCS Championship Game, the Buckeyes may just have a shot at winning...
Geaux Tigers!!!
Edit: Just to make things interesting, my upset special is Colorado over West Virginia on Sept. 18.

hmm a BCS game with OSU and Oklahoma? May be the first game where nobody wins.
I agree about the SEC killing itself off this year, there are quite a few top 25 teams in there, moreso than most years. The Big XII should have an off year, as should the PAC10, which will certainly help USC.
I'll say USC over OSU as the Buckeyes complete the hat trick.

The two play in September and I doubt voters will let there be a rematch for the national championship (see Ohio St/Michigan).
I'm predicting USC/Oklahoma.

I think Florida most likely goes 11-1, with that one loss coming at Georgia. If they can do 11-1 with the loss coming against an SEC West team then they're probably a lock for the SEC title game and maybe the BCS if they can win that. Go Gators!

It is Clemson though. They should take the ACC easily, but that program has a big history of choking (as well as a history of playing the underdog role very well).

I think both you and JayP are dead on. Big regular season with a loss to an inferior team in the ACC Championship or a fluke loss to a bottom dweller. The ACC is weird like that.
Davis and Spiller are a lot of fun to watch but let's be honest with ourselves, if Clemson couldn't get it done with Charlie Whitehurst, they're not going to get it done!

Cullen Harper is a much better QB than Whitehurst was.

I really do not understand Georgia being #1, but whatever...that stuff always takes care of itself.
Oklahoma vs USC is what I hope to see, but Im just not sure about Sanchez as USC's QB...hope he proves me wrong.

oh yea, forgot about that, well, maybe OSU/Michigan was at the end of the year, they would have played twice in a row, and Michigan proved they were not a national champion caliber team in that game.
And the BCS is partially match which won't care about if they played earlier.

Whom ever wins the Florida vs Ga Game is going to win the national championship.
Im a florida boy and Im flipping excited for the year!!! I cant wait to beat down the tigers after Florida blew the game last year.
Side note my Fiance's father took a job at the University of Alabama. Leaving the Uni of Iowa. So he will realize what real football is for once. Im tired of living in big 11 Oops I mean big ten country that think that the big ten is the greatest football ever. Once agian OSU will have a decent year playing d 1-AA teams all year and get a BCS game.

I wouldn't worry about Sanchez - he's the most talented QB they've had since Carson Palmer - he will be just fine!

Georgia looks to be riding the steam of their late year romp and utter thrashing of Hawaii. If Florida gets even one player who remotely resembles a running back (other than their qb) I think they've got a legitimate shot at it.
Even though I'll be happy if Michigan manages to go .500 with what looks to be a walk on as their starter, as long as we beat Ohio State I'll be content.

Moody was a usc transfer to UF. He had to redshirt last year so he has the playbook down. I cant wait to see Will Hill.
Knoxville? who playes there? when was the last time they beat Florida? I hate the vols. LSU, GAWGA, FSU, and Miami.
