Favorite cities to visit in the USA?
Another branch from the San Francisco thread  I've heard it's fantastic in SF (probably next on my travel list) and saw that many other CP'ers hold the same view. I went to LA and San Diego last year, and thoroughly enjoyed both, although my favorite city in the US has to be Seattle. Good shopping (lots of outlet malls), Mariners/Seahawks games, no tax (if you're from Alberta), and not too far away.
What's on top of your list? New York? Chicago? Miami? Las Vegas?

Well I chose to move from Alberta to the Bay Area..been here for 8 years. Here are my favorite USA cities to visit.
1) San Diego, California
2) Miami, Florida
3) Honolulu, Hawaii
4) Seattle, Washington
5) Chicago, Illinois
6) Orange County, California (ok its a whole county but I cant narrow it down)
7) Boston, MA
8) NYC
9) Washington DC
10) Santa Barbara, CA
Note: If I didnt live in the Bay Area, SF would be either #1 or #2!  Obviously I chose the right state to move to since 4 of my top 10 is in California!

My favourite cities are San Diego, San Francisco, Portland (Oregon), Seattle and New York City.
I'm actually seriously entertaining the possibility of moving down to San Diego, getting my Master's at SDSU and then staying there. OilersBaby, how's the red tape throughout the moving process to do what you did?

New Orleans.
Great culture, tons of history, fantastic food and music. It is a tourist town, so you'll find many friendly folks. Sure, there's the seedy underbelly, but a lot of what you hear is overblown.
I also enjoy Washington D.C.
You could spend days in the Smithsonian museums, and most of the touristy stuff is free! Great little cities around D.C. as well, the power center of the U.S. and multitude of universities makes it a unique place to go out on the town.

OK I have never been out east, but have been all down the west coast on numerous family road trips.
San Fransisco is an awesome place, really unique. You won't regret it.
Las Vegas was sweet obviously.
Not really a city, but if your an outdoor kind of guy, the Redwood forest in northern California is incredible with trees so tall they block the sun from the forest floor, and they are wide enough to drive a car through them.
Oregon state is beautiful as well. Lots of roadside "touristy" drap to do in these places.
I like Spokane too.

I've only been to maybe three or four cities in the US, so I would say, of them, NYC and Orlando were my favourites.

Hey it's not hard to move here. In fact, there's a member of CP whom I've never met in person, but through this thread, convinced him to move to the Bay Area to get his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. His name is Phanutheir for those of you who dont know him. He applied, got accepted and is moving here on Aug 18th to go to San Jose State University (which is where i went). I was chatting with him on MSN lsat night giving him advice about what to do when he first gets here. I asked him where he lives and can you believe this..he's moving ONE block away from my husband and I. SDSU wouldnt be much different in terms of the application process and everything than SJSU where I went!
I would be happy to help you and recruit another Albertan and CPer into this beautiful sunshine state of California.

Santa Clause, Indiana.
No, there's not a lot of shopping there, but it has one of the best theme parks in the world with the #1 ranked wooden coaster in the world, as well as a former top 10. Cheap, well run, friendly, and great coasters.
That said, the town itself is tiny.

Top three for me are for sure NYC, Chicago and San Fran in no particular order. I'd actually have a really tough time ranking those three.
Below that I'd put Miami and it drops off steeply from there.

I lived there for a year, went to clubs all over the city, explored everywhere I could, and I never ever had a problem.
The people that I met, black, white etc were all very friendly.
