Default Recommend Me Some Good PS3 Games

I got a PS3 for Xmas two years ago, and I just realized I only have one game for it (NHL 2K7), so I hardly ever play it. Haha.

I received a bunch of Best Buy/Future Shop gift cards as gifts, and I haven't used any of them yet, so I'm thinking of getting some games.

I don't play a whole lot of multiplayer games. I like first person shooters (but only realistic/simulation ones like Call Of Duty), action adventure games, and sports games; but I'd be willing to check out anything if it's fun. I was thinking of get NHL 08, but I figure it'd be kind of pointless since 09 is only about a month away from being released.

Anyways, if you have any suggestions, that would be awesome! Thanks!

Thanks! I'll have to check it out. To be honest, I've never actually played a Metal Gear Solid game before (even the ones that came out for the original Playstation), but they look really good. Haha.

If you aren't opposed to using the PlayStation Store I would suggest you giving PixelJunk Monsters a try, especially since it is only 5 dollars right now.

Call of Duty 4 is great, but mostly for online play.
The missions are still fun, but only a few hours of fun.
I'm not the hugest fan of the game myself, but Grand Theft Auto 4 will provide you with hours of gameplay at the very least.
I also really enjoy MLB '08 The Show.
Great gameplay and graphics.

Good timing! The first round of the ps3 greatest hits collection came out today. All titles are $30 and they include:
  • Warhawk - Never played it but I've heard good things.
  • MotorStorm - Really fun arcade racer. Excellent crash physics
  • Resistance: Fall of Man - Incredible story and a solid shooter. Sequel is out in the fall.
  • Call of Duty 3: ummmm, don't buy this. If you want a war shooter, get Call of Duty 4. A little bit more money but absolutely worth it
  • Need for Speed Carbon - I know nothing of this game. Ratings averaged out to be around 77%
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: if you like RPG's apparently this one is incredible. Not my kind of thing but many people swear by it
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma: Crazy ninja action. Again, critically it's been rated highly. Personally it's too hard and frustrating for me.
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas: I really liked this game. It had its issues, but I found it to be really fun.
  • Assassin's Creed: Real love it or hate it experience. Personally I really enjoyed it.
If I had to pick out of that list I'd say get Resistance and Motorstorm. Personal opinion only.

Other notables that are still full price:
Call of Duty 4: As mentioned above, the best online experience on the system in my opinion
NHL 09: Not out until September 9th, but keep it on your radar.
Uncharted: Modern Indiana Jones type adventure game ... HIGHLY recommended

PSN Games ($5-$10)
Pain: $5 for this week only. A personal favorite of mine. The goal is to launch a character from a giant sling-shot into a downtown area and cause as much pain to the character as possible. I find it hilarious, other don't seem to know what to do with it. There's a mode where you throw mimes through panes of glass. If that appeals to you I suggest you give it a thought.
Super Star Dust HD: The game isn't nearly as stupid as the name. Kinda like asteroids ... on crack

My call? Get your online connection going and download demos of some of the games above to see if you like them.

Of the ones I've played:

Grand Theft Auto IV - Hours of gameplay in single player mode.
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Good action platformer. Episodes coming to PSN.
Warhawk - Online only, but the dogfights are fun.
MotorStorm - Decent racer.

From what I have heard:

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Good FPS. Couldn't get into the PC version, so never tried PS3.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Heard it's good, with plenty of cutscenes.

If your PS3 is backwards compatible, you could also shop for PS2 games.

Uncharted: Drakes fortune is REALLY sweet. Think Prince of Persia meets Indiana Jones. Sweet right?

I'd highly recommend getting Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. My favorite two PS3 games right now.

And Metal Gear Solid 4.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is absolutely essential.

Other than that, I'd look at Uncharted, Resistance, and Ratchet & Clank Future. All solid, exclusive games.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a must for PS3 owners. My personal favorite is Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction. Other than the two I suggest Uncharted (go eBay for cheaper), Call of Duty 4, NHL 09, Oblivion (Hundreds of hours of gameplay, RPG, may not be your thing but it is one of the best games), GTA 4. That's all.

I am a 360 guy myself, owning 30 games, but enjoy PS3'ing as well and those games I would suggest.

I thought all the abuse this game took was fairly unwarranted. True it was a short game, but one of the most cinematic gaming experiences I've ever had. Plus (contrary to the amount I discuss games) I don't have as much time to play games as I used to. Short games are more my thing lately. I look at large game like oblivion and just feel overwhelmed. If my wife wasn't house-sitting the week GTA4 came out I'd still be working on it.

Civilization Revolution is good. Played a couple of games now, and its got nice pacing compared to Civ3 and Civ4 on the PC.

Apparently pixeljunk Eden comes out today. It's kind of a weird game, but judging from the demo I'd say it might just be the best game the psn has to offer.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! I really appreciate it!

That Uncharted: Drake's Fortune game looks really good. Is it a lot of fun to play? And is it a long or short game?

I was also looking at Call Of Duty 4, which looks awesome. The only thing that kind of puts me off is the fact that the single player mode is apparently really short. Does anyone know how much longer the single player mode in COD 3 is compared to COD 4?

Thanks again!
