wow ... that's about the worst thing I've heard in a while. Hopefully the weight of the load killed him instantly because like you say, that's a brutal way to go.

There's going to be some heavy fines coming from this. First he wasn't even allowed to work on a construction site. Second, there's probably some safety negligence here. When I worked paving, it was very hard for anyone other than the truck driver to become buried (which was also damn near impossible). The driver would undo the gate, back up to the paver, dump his load, THEN the people went in with the rakes and shovels. Something ain't jiving here... I hope it wasn't a case of the load being stuck and sending in the little inexperienced kid to do the dirty work.

Dude I drive dump truck and do asphalt all the time. How in the hell do you get in the paver? then get put on the ground with out anyone noticing the big bump that they would feel?
Some one was high or drunk because there is no way in hell that anyone can mess that up.

You should print this and bring it the next safety meeting as an example of what can go wrong if people don't pay attention.

I'll be putting it on the health and safety board when I get back to the office...

			Horrible.
You can see why those workplace safety TV commercials (played during flames games last year) were so graphic. This horrific stuff really does happen.

			Brutal, just brutal.
Something false workplace safety wise had to have happened in order for this to occur.

I have been told that when I do asphalt that they love working with me because I take my time and back up real slow to the paver. There is one person on the machine and two people on each side and 2 to 4 people at the back.
I haul ass from the quarry to job site but slow down at the job site and quarry. there is no reason that the guy/girl cant go home to their famlies at night.

 this is horrid.

I still can't figure out how it could possibly happen.
Doesn't someone have to TELL you to dump? Assuming this kid is unloading, and assuming he was there alone(considering nobody warned him)....how could he NOT pay attention to the truck unloading hot asphalt?

Well your whole load doesnt come out at once like hauling rock.

You back up to the machine you start to move the box up until the load shifts and then you hold it. the machine will push you foward as it comes out of the box. one of the people on the side of the maching (usally drivers side) will tell you to put the box up more and then when your empty to put the box down. After that you pull foward another 3-4 meters and lift the box all the way up to make sure that everything was out.

I cant belive that this kid wasnt accounted for.

What the hell is a 15 year old kid doing serious construction.

I know here in the US that a 15 year old wouldnt be able to have that job.

That's the way we did it too.... but at no point did a person have to put themselves behind a full load when tilted where a person could get buried. I still can't fathom how someone can bury themselves with a full load of asphalt.

Maybe they weren't using a paver? Maybe it was being done like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdbTn...eature=related
