FM Transmitters
I couldn't find a thread on this already, but if I missed it, you can add this to it. I know by definition most FM transmitters for iPods blow, but I'm going on a road trip next week and I need to buy a new one for my iPod. Any recommendations on ones that are less crappy than others?

The monster ones are probably the best on the market, they are chargers as well as FM transmitters. Sometimes they are on sale, otherwise they are fairly pricey. That's what I use. Aside from powerlines and competing radio signals, it works just fine.
Edit: Like YNAT said, Griffin ones are good too.

London Drugs sells Griffin Brand ones, the charger and FM transmitter are together in one cord that plugs into the iPod connector, so it leaves the headphone jack free. Nice and clean, relatively inexpensive, ours works pretty good.

About 70 or 80 bucks I think. If you already have a charger, london drugs has just FM transmitters for fairly cheap too.

Buy the Belkin one if your going to use it in your car. It charges the iPod while you drive and has the clearest reception of the ones I've bought.

i have the griffin mentioned above and it works well. I remember way back in the day when changing frequencies was a massive pain and there was no way to charge. What a wonderful age we live in.

UPS's, Wireless Routers, Print Servers, anything...none of it works properly. If they can't build a decent UPS I don't see how they can make a good FM transmitter.
Second the MONSTER suggestion though. Overpriced, but at least they seem to be solid products.

I bought this one, comes with the charger too. Can't beat the price. Had it for a year now, works fine.
And free shipping, what more could you ask?

I can't believe people are recommending Monster products. Nothing they make it worth-it. They are over-priced and there are better products out there. The best FM Transmitter has to be Kensington. The ones you see at Futureshop or Bestbuy are good ones. They are pricey but I have had one for more than a year and no problems. DLO ones suck, they cost more than mine and suck. The new kensington one charges it as well, and it is crystal clear reception. Put the money into it, because you won't be dissapointed.

I sold Griffin products for years and they rarely came back. I suggest the RoadTrip, if you'd like something with a stand-up dock, charger, and transmitter. Also, try to make sure if has the "smart search" feature. It'll make things a lot easier, and go directly to the cleanest frequency.

Similar question, does anyone know of a good transmitter/charger for the new iphone? I have a griffin road trip, but it's not compatible as a charger.

After seeing what monster sells its cables for I would have to recommend avoiding them at all costs. Anybody who rips people off like that clearly has no soul.
Odd to hear about the griffin road trip. i have an older model griffin and it seems to charge my iphone fine.

Yeah, never buy Monster at full price. Unreal prices for slightly better than the typical competitors stuff. Still, if on sale, they're top notch.

I have this one, and it works really well for me. It doesn't go as loud as the radio does, but from what I understand that has more to do with the mixing volume of the mp3 than it does the transmitter

On a sort of related note, anyone know a good frequency to set this to? I use this for my satellite radio and the one I have it on sucks badly! There are a lot of stations around Calgary it seems...
