This is the comment I was going to make only this guy beat me to it, and was way funnier than what I was going to say:

That should be "poring" over slick magazines. Unless the countertop is really, really radioactive.

Actually I think with all the technology these days humans will start to resist higher levels of radiation and what not that we couldn't before. Otherwise everyone will be getting cancer and dying before their time. Again everything these days seems to be a cancer causing agent. Evolution will take it's course... I think a guy named Darwin wrote something about it...

I don't see the funny? Over my head obviously. I see the grammar error, but not the really really radioactive thing.

This is a better comment:

There are dozens of things in your kitchen that are millions of times more likely to kill you than your countertops. The most likely way to die is simply falling down. Accidentally drinking the cleaning stuff underneath the sink is up there, as is eating something from the fridge that's gone bad.
To put it in perspective, drinking from BPA-coated bottles while sitting on your granite countertops for a few hundred thousand years increases your risk of death about as much as eating just one raw oyster.
But hey, it's good that the lawyers are on this one. They can help us sue the manufacturers, so we can all can take our winnings and go back to the familiar safety of our freeways, workplaces and extreme-sport vacations.

This whole health nazii craze lately is making me sick.
1 - my water bottle that I love causes cancer
2 - your granite counter top will kill you.
3 - your cell phone will cause brain cancer.
Unless 50+1% of people will actually die, SHUT UP and let me drink my water from my bottle on my granite counter top while talking to someone on a cell phone.
Geesh, its all starting to make me sick, correct that, its made me sick.

So, 51% of the people who use a product have to die for you to consider it a health risk? That's ridiculous. I certainly wouldn't want you involved in certifying products as safe or unsafe.

Boy am I tired of seeing the reductio ad Nazium fallacy. Seriously, health Nazis? Radon is linked to cancer and granite and shales can emit Radon in certain cases.
Radon is second to smoking in causes of cancer experts believe. This because no one ever test for it and could be found in all kinds of building materials.

I read it that you're so radioactive you become liquified and are 'pouring over' the magazine literally.
I guess it's not that funny, but still way funnier than what I would have come up with.

Having worked for a summer at AECL (Atomic Energy Canada Ltd.) and regularily used a Gamma Ray detector on soil and rock samples, I can tell you that naturally you will find a higher level of radiation in rock then you will in soil, wood or synthetic plastics. When working there your exposure levels are monitored regularly and it was a well known fact that often those receiving the most exposure were those that forgot their monitor on themselves and went on a weekend camping trip in the Canadian Shield.
Nothing really to see here, except maybe to say, those of you concerned should probably build a wooden (not concrete with crushed gravel) with several layers of lead (which you shouldn't lick and somehow keep seperated from) with grass or synthetic flooring from which you should be protected by a personal bubble with many times filtered water.

I thought it was funny too at first, I thought 'in other news' was the funny part, shows how much I know. jEdit: I guess I should have said witty instead of funny.
