Annoying silent phone calls, anyone else gets them?
So I've been getting these annoying silent phone calls from these two numbers for about 2 months now, they're from Ontario, they call about 6 or 7 times a day and it's always silent when I pick up, and when I call back there's also no answer. Now I just ignore them and press reject on my cell, which leads them to my Voicemail but of course they never leave a message.
I googled the numbers and apparently quite a few people have had the same problem in Calgary recently. I called Fido and the idiot CSR says there's nothing they can do about it.
So what can I do about this? Switching numbers is not an option for me and there's no block function for specific numbers on my phone.
The numbers are 416-642-9278 and 416-646-8802, anyone else have the same problem?

Don't know if it is true or not, but my buddy told me its a computer calling your phone. The computer is trying to keep track of what times/days you answer the phone. This information is then given to telemarketers so they can call you at those times.
As to a solution, I don't know one.

it's telemarketers. When ever I get I get a call from one of them, it is always silent for about 5 seconds before someone comes on the line. You may be hanging up to quickly.

Probably just wrong numbers from people that have lived in Ontario all their lives.
Not only do they not know their area codes, but they also hold the phone upside down, hence the silence.
(Wonder how many people this will anger)

Not the one...

Happened to me for a while. I ignored it forever and then searched the numbers to get the same result you did.
I ended up picking up the phone and mashing numbers a couple times and then it stopped - not sure if it was a coincidence or not.

That's what ive been told also. I'd get the silent call at a certain time and a few days later a telemarketer would be calling. Might be time to get caller ID.

If you can set a unique ring for a phone number then set it to silent for the numbers.

This would be tempting if I didn't have cards at a good interest rate. I think they are one of those credit counselor outfits that want to take over your debts and thus screw up your credit rating.

Yes it is a computer calling trying to keep track of what times/day. I read an article and it's about this news guy way of trying to fool the computer. Pick up the phone and enter ###### (pound sign 6 times) then hang up.
I am not sure if it works or not but obviously it does for me because i don't have a lot of those calls from Ontario much.

I think this is what it is and I don't think there is a solution. Just don't answer because then they will sell the info and you will have telemarketers calling at those times as well.

I get those Ontario numbers calling my house quite often. Never have answered it, though. A few times I've gotten calls from Michigan, one time from California, one time from Kentucky I think, Maryland has called a few times. Washington has even called my house also.
Didn't know I was that well known in America.
