I’m starting to think Pemberton is going to be way too much money. I was going to take a motorhome up there but with 4 people sharing costs it would be $360 each plus alcohol as there as no outside booze allowed. And knowing them it will be $8 for a plastic glass of warm Budweiser.
The RV price pisses me off as it is way overpriced ($270) and you don’t even get hookups with that. And they say there is a shuttle from the RV site to the festival site so it is probably far away from everything.
The price wouldn't get to me so much if the other festivals this summer weren't so much cheaper. I guess that's the price we pay to enjoy beautiful BC, as always.
Easily a $500 concert

I've opted out because of the price too. I wanted to go and find a hotel, and that is looking really expensive.
$500 minimum is too much for me right now. There's about 4-5 bands I'd really like to see, but for that money I can see them all in their own shows(which would be better) for much less.
I'm hoping some of them do Vancouver shows while they're coming out this way anyway.

Well, I scored a ticket for $150 (and was offered a second chance offer on ebay for $100) so now I'm getting pumped.
For any of you familiar with the bands, I'm looking for a crash course on some of the lesser known bands (who's a can't miss, bands' best songs etc..)
Here's a link to the lineup.

I dont know if I'm going to go to Sunday or not as I'm not really into Coldplay or JayZ. anybody heard of the Airbourne Toxic Event? I heard they're worth seeing on Sunday.

My Morning Jacket...one of if not the best live band around, should put on one of the best shows of the weekend. Make sure you catch them.
Honestly I probably shouldn't go but I want to try to get there on Saturday just so I can see them.

Don't miss Vampire Weekend. One of my favourite acts from Bonnaroo this year. Minus the Bear and Black Mountain are also good bands.

I have been to many festivals in the past, and while they sound great, I find I am always disappointed.
The whole tent city situation ruins the time for me. Drunken jerks tripping onto your tent, public barfing, drunken a-holes,port-o-potty line-ups, people stealing stuff and fighting, strangers crawling into your tent at night, drunken a-holes....
Maybe I'm getting too old.
But I agree, Vampire Weekend should be watched if possible.

Thanks for the input. I've heard a lot about Vampire Weekend so I will make a point to see them. And if Igottago is thinking about spending $100 just to see My Morning Jacket, they must be good.

Went for Saturday only, and these are my thoughts:
Watched Sam Roberts, My Morning Jacket, The Hip & Flaming Lips.
All were really good, and the crowd was generally good too. The Flaming Lips put on one of their crazy shows with giant balloons being tossed around the crowd and telletubies on the stage. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the spectacle.
We didn't stay for Tom Petty because we were driving back to Van and wanted to beat the mad rush or drunk people.
The site itself was set up good, but the volunteers working don't seem to be trained very well, and weren't very informative if you had questions.
The Bacardi B-stage where the dj's perform was pretty cool. It's set up like a big nightclub with lots of big screens, lights and waterfalls behind the bars. This would have been a great place to see some of the big name djs playing, but unfortunately with a 2500 capacity it was nearly impossible to get into in the evening.
I feel like I ate a bag of dirt with all of the dust in the air. I can't imagine what it would be like after 3 days. A lot of people will be coughing hard come Monday.
All in all, it was a good day, and if they did it again, I would try to go for the whole thing. I'd be interested to see the reviews from those who are gone for the whole event.
Also, there was a huge Flames flag sticking out from one of the tents in the main camping area; couldn't miss it. Way to Represent, if that was someone on CP!!

I went to two days of the festival. My friends all did 3. In order to return I would have to have a guarantee from the organizers that they had put a little more thought into infrastructure.
It took us 3 hours to drive from whistler where we were staying to the festival site (normally a 20 minute drive), Because of this I missed My Morning Jacket's show. I think a major problem was the fact they had constant school buses shuttling people and doing U-Turns on a two lane street that was way over capacity.
One friend of mine who bought a 3 day pass, ended up turning around instead of seeing the third day due to the massive line.
The staff had no experience whatsoever. Most seemed like kids from the local high school. I also was not a big fan of the prices in general. It seemed like they tried to squeeze as much money from people as possible. I paid 150 for a two day pass on craigslist, but would not have been happy having paid close to 300 or whatever it was.
The dust was, as you said, a major problem. Impossible to see the major acts in the dj tent, and yes I did notice the massive flames flag with a pirate flag under it. Another problem was that the stage wasnt high enough, which made it very difficult ot get a view of the actual stage.
All this being said, the show itself was great. Great vibes everywhere and an in general friendly attitude. I didnt get to see ColdPlay, but of the acts I saw Tom Petty was by far the best. In general, very positive experience. Not sure it would have been worth the full price though.
Edit: I forgot to add that Phaneuf was on the bus that transported us from the parking to the festival. He made a quick escape before he could get mobbed by us fans.

What? Phaneuf was at the festival? Was he there with Elisha Cuthbert? What was she wearing?
Anyhow, I agree with you, there were a lot of organizational problems. Some aspects of it were a joke..no clear signage, clueless volunteers, not enough trash cans. The DJ tent should be an open tent, the lineups to get into it were unreasonable, and that damn fence at the mainstage has to go, its a disaster waiting to happen when people are trying to get out.
However, the music and lineup was fantastic. They are already talking about next year so if they fix up their issues should be a lot better. Not bad for a first go around I would say.

Funny enough, she wasn't but Sean Avery was. They both walked in front of the mainstage at different times.

A lot of talk on the radio stations of Zeppelin Headlining next year. Apparently their touring schedule is going to jive with Pemberton

Are you talking about the random fence in the middle of the mainstage? yeah that was random. The only good thing about it was that if you were up against it you got to see some of the show.
I think the fences on the sides (where the "VIP area was) needed to go as well. There was just too many people there to have an entire area blocked off like that. It made getting away from the stage a nightmare too.

Got back to Vancouver at 5 a.m. today seeing as I had work at 9, talk about no sleep!
Anyways I definitely had a great time and it seemed like everyone else was having a great time too, so there were certainly positive vibes throughout, whether or not those were chemically induced or not it didn't matter.
All the main stage acts were great, I am not much of a hip hop guy but Jay-Z was great, Coldplay was excellent, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers blew me away, and on of my favourites was N.E.R.D, crazy enthusiasm, energy and a lot of fun.
I agree that the fence in the middle of the mainstage field made no sense to me, just created an unneccessary bottleneck between acts. I didn't get to see any of the DJs in the Bacardi tent, that really pissed me off. I paid a ticket to see all these acts, either you chose to stand in line all day to get in the Bacardi tent and miss all the bands, or you saw all the bands and missed the DJs, something that really needs to be figured out next year, IMO just don't have it enclosed on the sides, just have the canopy. The volunteers were next to useless, it seemed like I knew more about the event than them. Food prices were a tad outrageous, 5 dollars for a bottle of pepsi! Also might be a good idea to have the whole concert be 19 and over, just have the whole grounds liscenced for alcohol, just make things a bit easier.
But for a first time festival not bad!

I was at all 3 days. The music was great, they didn't suffer from any major ice or water shortages for the camps...Those are all of the hilights; the rest was horrible. The line-ups were insane, people had to camp in parking lots because they didn't have enough bus drivers, they didn't make signs saying where any bus was going until the third day, staff couldn't answer a thing...it was brutal.
The only way I'd ever go back is if Nirvana, the Beatles and Tupac were the closing acts each night...
