I'm no follower of religion but how can he take a fable about Adam and Eve, that's meant to teach a lesson on how we must be free from judgment in order to be truly free and by saying this story isn't factual and thus arrive at the conclusion, there is no god.This is stupid. This is no better than the right wing religious nuts who stake their faith on the infallibility and holiness of the Bible.
As I've said before the only ones who take the Bible literally are the religious fundamentalists and atheists although it's rather frustrating how these fundamentalists create their own straw man in defence of there 'man made god' which atheists can then tear apart. Theists with any clue just shake their heads and walk away, because they know god isn't in the Bible or Koran or church or temple but inside each of us, which I'm going to do.

A more accurate description would be:

Gervais take on aspects of the Christian religion that probably less than 1/4 of humanity actually believes in anyway.

Saying that he is taking on "religion" is like saying someone is taking on "history" by disagreeing with causes and effects of the French Revolution or that someone is taking on "science" by pointing out that past theories in medicine and biology from 500 to 100 years ago were proven to be wrong.

It's easy to pin point things in any subject and "take them on", but you can't give people credit for taking on a whole realm of science or philosophy for doing such a thing.

This man is "brilliant", I haven't seen "Extra's" but everything he does is histarical. His character as David Brent in the UK version of The Office is unmatched. His stand up performance "Politics" is also great.
