I'll be there with my friend who showed up last time, also, my girlfriend will be coming to watch, and she can play if there aren't enough girls. Looking forward to it, I think we can win!

Soo, I'm not part of this team, but am looking for advice from other softball players about a game I was in tonight.

The team we played against were nice guys, a little drunk, but that's the be expected on a rec league. But throughout the game they pitched when the fielders weren't ready(pitch to yourself), did not know the rules at all, and constantly tried to psych us out (by yelling overthrow, schank it, miss, etc.)

So my question is, do I have a right to be a little bit peeved at this team? Enough so to go through a sportsmanship complaint?

Sounds like you played SW Calgary Puckers!!!!
Only the little drunk and nice guys part though.
They sound like a--h---s. Nobody wants to be the guys who complain, but sometimes these guys need to know thier behaviour is unsportsmanlike.
(I keep having to edit my typing, I am a lot drunk)
I would tell them to pitch it again if you are not ready.
Any yelling at a player trying to make a play should be an expulsion. If a guy is yelling "miss" when you are trying to field, that guy is clearly not very sportsmanlike. You should go up to him and tell him he needs to go home. You have to curb it early. Tell thier captain (even if he's involved) that next time his/her team pulls that; the player must leave the field, is gone from the game, and should try to grow up.
Doesn't matter how "rec" the game is, some common courtesy is expected.

I would be annoyed especially since it is rec. The league you play in should have rules for this, this is from the calgary sport and social club website.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct This includes not calling your own fouls, not stopping play while a player has been injured and commenting on the other teams play It also includes not showing respect for the facility and equipment, the other team and Games Coordinator/Events Coordinator.
Minor Offence = Warning Letter
Non Serious Offence = Warning Letter and Review
Serious Offence = 1-3 Game Suspension
Major Offence = Suspension from our League

Who knows where that would lie though, probably a minor or non serious but who knows maybe other teams have made complaints and it would be escalated.

Great game by everyone on I'd Hit That last night!
Pagal, I'd say that's out of place at any level, but especially in a pitch-to-yourself league, where there's generally people looking to learn the game and just have fun. I've had similar issues in a CSSC basketball league I play in, where there's a team that will clap or shout whenever someone on the opposing team takes a shot. At a competitive level, I can sort of see that, but not at a rec level. Fortunately, that's a situation where you can ask the coordinator to intervene and mention it to the other team. I assume that your league doesn't have an umpire or coordinator?

I'd suggest contacting the league, let them know what happened so that they have the issue on record, and then if a future team complains about them, there's a history of complaints and it's easier for them to take action. The league can also advise you about exactly what they consider inappropriate behaviour.

Sorry guys, but I won't be able to make it out tonight. I pulled a groin muscle yesterday and unable to do much for the next few days. I'll be good to next weekend if I don't do anything stupid.

Good luck tonight!

The night was really quite fun, for about 3 minutes, until those of us who showed up realized that there was only going to be 5 of us show.

So the other team and us played a little scrimmage, which was alright except it wasn't a real game and there are not enough people.

You are off the hook because you said you weren't going to be there, but seriously where was anyone else? This team can't go on like that. And I know next time they will all show up and bring 12 people each. Can't happen that way. I don't want to waste my time like that. One week, I go and waste my time and show up when no one else does, and then the next week I go show up and so do 20 people and then I don't get to play much so waste of time. I don't want that shat happening.

How many people do we have on this team? We need 10 for sure every week. From now on, if you can't make it, you need to be very clear to everyone that they need to find subs. We could have had a much better time tonight if I had known and brought out half a team worth of players.

Just as a note, I heard a rumour that there is a fee for a forfeit. So those who didn't show and didn't tell anyone... you can deal with that.

That being said, see you all next week, I have the equipment so it's all good. We'll try to forget this little incident. If you can't be there, PM me and I will bring a spare. I know some people who know some people. Let us know as soon as you can so it doesn't screw people who keep their commitments.

wow thats not good to hear. I am sure you guys are unaware I am still out of the country. I will see if the league forwards me anything for a forfeit fee and we will get that straightened out. Do we have a list of who did show up?

Sorry everyone... Sucks to hear basically no one showed up.
I was out of town camping. Tried my best to make it back in time (had my ball gear in my car to do so), however didn't get back into town until 7 and couldn't get to a computer until around 8.
I don't have anyone's phone number from this team. Chris maybe you could PM me yours in case a situation like this arises again? (hopefully it wont)

We will swap numbers next game bud, no worries. There were 5 people who showed, we know who we are so we can make a list next time.

Well, if you guys ever need a spare, let me know. Though in this case, it would have been impossible to know ahead of time. That sucks.

FWIW, I believe that CSSC charges a $50 fee for a forfeit.

I mentioned this at the game last week, but I'm 50/50 for Sunday, so if anyone has a friend who can sub for me, I'd appreciate it.

I'll be there and I can bring subs so let me know if we need any. I'll also pitch in for my portion of the forfeit fee, should be paid by the people who didn't show up.
