Default Flaring Sweet Gas...NIMBY?

I went up to the inlaws cottage near Gull lake yesterday and see that 500m away they are drilling a well and for the next three days will be flaring sweet gas (120 e3m3 worth in total...which I assume is 120 cubic meters times whatever e-cubed is...maybe it is 120 cubic meters of liquid gas)...anyways after they started flaring I could have sworn my throat started feeling kind of raw (we were downwind)...so since we have a 6 month old we headed back home. Why take the chance right?

So what is the deal with flaring sweet gas, is it harmless? Did we overreact? I am sure these guys were abiding by the evironmental regulations, but I have no idea how strict those regulations are (I'm sure they are strict...but are they strict enough).

Anyways, it was a real pisser to have to leave the cottage for that, just wanted to know what you guys would have done.

They are very very strict. And in the case of drilling near population, there have monitors throughout the area continuously monitoring the air quality.

My guess, you overreacted, but I'm not an expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. If you really want to feel what a sore throat feels like, stay in Thunder Bay/Dryden for a bit. The pulp mills are just horrible.

edit: I thought the OP said sour, hahaha

Sweet gas flaring can't hurt you. If they know the well is sweet you have nothing to worry about. plus they monitor very closely. Sweet gas is almost the same as the fuel gas your furnace burns.
