Interesting way to debut an album. I can totally see the marketing advantage of doing this, but what ever happened to releasing an album as a stand alone piece of art to be digested by actually listening to the music? Seems those days are long behind us. I remember when going to a midnight release to buy a new "CD" was a kind of fun thing.

When was the last time Metallica displayed any kind of artistic integrity, 1992?

Lol, yes I agree. But still, just seems the music industry in general is trending away from the "artistic integrity" side of things and more into the gimmicky marketing side of things. I'm not even against something like Guitar Hero, but i'm not sure I'd like to see my favourite bands release an album on it. (I'm not a fan of metallica BTW)

They're getting the first single but I don't know about the album.
I just hope they aren't going exclusive to Guitar Hero because even though now that I know Rock Band drums will work on Guitar Hero 4 I'll probably get both people should be able to have a choice whether to get Rock Band or Guitar Hero and not be forced into getting one or the other if they want their favorite band's material. Cause I know some people don't like Guitar Hero and visa versa.

I about as excited as the time I got free tickets to see the Scorpions at the Jubilee last year.
Old skinny men with tonnes of moles should not wear sleeveless shirts, sea foam green wrestling tights, and play a blazing red guitar.
Metallica started out as something cool. Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning are albums made on sheer force of will! They were skinny, long-haired rockers who hated just about everything to do with mainstream society.
Now Hetfield is a roided up car jock and Lars is a whining b****. Don't know anything about their current bassist, except he used to play for Ozzy. Can't say I blame Newsted for leaving, especially if it was to play with Devin Townsend.

They still put on a hell of a show. I'm not even a fan for the most part, but they rocked the **** out of Bonnaroo this year.

Where do you get he's "roided up"? I've met the guy in person. He's not that big at all actually.
But in the end it doesnt matter if he's on steriods or not or how whiny Lars is. The music is what matters and from what I've heard on MissionMetallica.com it sounds like they've gone back to their roots which is exciting as a fan.

Earlier, before the self titled album. In my opinion And Justice For All is the greatest music album of all time.

Ride the Lightning
I've read in early reviews that this new album is supposed to be reminiscent of ...And Justice For All, so I'm excited to hear it.

I'd say from the clips they release everyday on the site I mentioned above it's something like what they would have released had they made an album between Justice and the Black Album.
Here's the riff they introduced when they revealed the album title:

For Whom The Bell Tolls is probably my favorite Metallica song of all time. Its just so good.
I'm always skeptical of reviews. How many times do we hear things like that? Then it turns out to be a huge disappointment. I hope its true though.

Well, if you look at the back of the cover of Kill Em All, they're all pictured in a black and white portrait. This was in the mid 80s. In the mid 90s, they did the S&M Concert with the San Fransisco Symphony (their BEST concert...Hetfield actually learned how to sing!) and he was still skinny then too.
Then some time after Some Kind of Monster came out I saw a tribute show on some music channel where all these young bands like Avril Lavigne and Limpbizkit and the like were all playing Metallica covers while Metallica was in the house. Of course, at the end, they get up and play (Sad But True, Hero of the Day, and Enter Sandman...what else? yawn...).
In this show, James must be so roided up it's scary. He looked a lot like a wrestler! His was a mass of muscle...arms, legs, neck...all of it. One cannot quit alcohol & cocaine and then go put that kind of freakish weight and build on without roids.
And as far as the music goes...Metallica were cool because they wrote songs about cool things (Ride the Lightning is all about different ways to die !) because they had cool opinions/positions on a lot of important issues.
When the original sheer force of will that I felt oozing out of every note is replaced by complacency, pettiness (how they treated Newstead, the napster thing), and the need to make a movie about them getting therapy is weak and lame, it is totally undermining of everything I thought was "cool" about them.

Had an idea!

James isn't that big. I mean, he isn't some skinny dude, but he's not 'ripped' by any means. I certainly wouldn't say he is on steroids.
I'm excited about the new album. There have been a few different riffs released, and while it isn't like And Justice for All, or Master of Puppets(nothing ever will be)....it still sounds good.
