This one is a noun that bugs me but I'll share it anyways.

So here's an example of how pretty much every single conversation goes with someone in the Oil Patch:

Me: Hey man, how are are ya?
Him/Her: Busy!

Busy is not a description of how you are doing, seriously. I don't care if your boss has you working 120 hours per week, if I cared I would have asked that question. Stop making yourself sound important by saying you are busy, nobody cares.

My office has been overrun with a plague of "I know, right?"

Me: That's a nice hat
Her: I know, right?

I hate it when people confuse an adverb with an adjective...

Not everything in this world is random - a meteorite striking a city, that's random - everyday quirks, follies, and foibles? NOT RANDOM.
You took the words right out of my mouth

I cannot stand the word random…I still can’t figure out how it became such a common term

The worst part is how often it is used inappropriately…One time I was at some bar with some girl and she had lost her ID and debit card, she found it later under the table where she had been sitting earlier. Turns to me and says “wow that was random” being majorly frustrated I turn to her and said “No! It’s not random, if anything it’s likely you moron” that was the end of that interaction

When I was taking my bar admission course, we had one of the teacher lawyers say the same thing. If you call a lawyer and ask how he's doing, 90% of the time he'll say busy. The guy was like () what are we trying to prove, that we're better than you because we can't manage our time very well...

Great examples so far, I agree with all of them!

"Niiiice!"
"Epic"
"Cool"
"Like" (valley girl style)
"Brutal"
"Vicious"

there is a lot more, but I am getting angry thinking about them! LOL

YES! I hear it so often at bars and places like that, by people who really don't know (or care) what it means, as long as they can say it. "I found a fiver in my purse! So random!" Arrgh!! No it's not!! It was in your purse where money is supposed to be kept!!!

I think I'm guilty of using "classic" when it's not entirely merited.

I also call people "######bags" a lot... but I'm not changing that one.

"brutal" is used a lot. "legendary" as well...

But, when I read the thread title, the first one that came to mind was the OP's "amazing". People use that to describe everything these days.

I f'n hate the word 'random' as well. As in, when i hate it the most..

"Oh man, all my friends went to bar last night and it was a **** show. So random!"

Stuff it. It wasn't random, you chose to go to that bar, so a) NOT random. That song you decided to go dance to on the dancefloor? yeah, b) THAT'S NOT random. You chose that song. That drink that was on special that night? Yeah, that was pre-planned by the bar, so c) that was NOT random. The only thing RANDOM you did was hook up with that person that kept grinding with you and then woke up in a strange bed somewhere with a hangover, a sore ass and an itchy sting between your legs.

The word 'beauty' is starting to annoy me too, now. 'That was beauty'... no, it was BEAUTIFUL. Not sure how this word came around, either.

'Glorious' bugs me too. As does 'epic'.

Not that it's an adjective, but another word I freakin' hate is 'Hubby'. Why would you call your husband that? It sounds like 'Tubby'. Is it too hard to say 'husband'? Apparently so. It just seems to me like someone is INCREDIBLY whipped over their significant other when they start addressing said person by a nickname that doesn't even relate to their own actual name; like, it validates their lust for one another to give a nickname to describe their matrimonial relationship. To me, this is a verbal PDA, which is just as bad. Say HUSBAND, damnit. Quit being lazy!

most of these don't really bother me, though I agree many of them are overused.

One that really irritates me is when people talk about doing things like "a rock star". Holy dinah does that get stale fast.

I hate how the word "hero" is whored around by the media. Everyone's a hero now it seems. It totally devalue's the word. The word should be reserved for our fiire fighters, police officers, soldiers, etc. It should not be used to describe victims of crimes.

I tend to go in phases with my adjectives. Right now I use "awesome" and "awful" a little too much. A few years ago it was "fantastic".

I second this. People who use this word as a positive drive me up the wall. Damn mallrats.

The word "actually" is rather annoying too. I tend to use it way too often and it very rarely adds any value to what I'm trying to say.

No kidding. And after anything event, the reporter ALWAYS has to ask "Do you consider yourself a hero?"....inevitably followed by something like "No, I just did what anybody else would have done".

It really bothers me when people use the verb "choked" as an adjective. As in "Buddy was really choked when he found out his girlfriend was banging his unemployed meth-addicted cousin."

thank you!

i have a buddy who goes from one end to the other of the emotional spectrum with choked and stoked, doesnt really use any other phrases, and probably because he likes the rhyming sound...

it bugs me!
