Not sure how badly I care to admit this but it MAY help someone else. I was flipping through the settings screen as my xbox live account wasn't signing in. I discovered that be default, my xbox was set to 480i!!! Cranked it up all the way and wow, what a difference. Check your settings screen people!

Finished the game last night and I'm starting to work on some achievements. For the love of all that is holy I can't do the barrel roll. I'm going to all the places people use on youtube and I've spent about 7 hours on it so far.

I bought a new 42 inch LCD 1080p T.V. this weekend, so I'm looking forward to trying GTA IV out in all of its glory.

Agreed Sainters. I'm done the story (still have some of the side mission stuff left but... meh...) and I think I want to start again, just to see if I can complete some of the missions different ways, or better, or whatever. I tried that one a couple time... my favorite was after killing all the bad guys but before getting the coke, I went and got a bike and rode it right into the main hallway just outside the room with the coke... then grab the coke, jump on the bike and ride through the door. A bit tricky on the bike, but fun as hell....

I can't seem to pry myself from multiplayer long enough to finish this beast. Anyone know what the deal is with trophies on PS3 and how you get them in this game?
I don't really see myself hunting down all two hundred pigeons but do you get one for finishing the game? I'll probably get a few when NHL09 comes out but beyond that I have little patience for spending hours searching for crap. Especially since GTA is so huge.

No, Kate never invites Nico in for "hot coffee". Ironically, she seems to be the only one of the "girlfriends" in the game that he actually likes (and me too, if Kiki's special ability wasn't so valuable, I would have kicked her to the curb long ago).
Dating Kate isn't a waste of time though, she is a pretty important character as the game progresses. I don't know what would happen if you tried to dump her, but I doubt it'll let you.

[SPOILER]No that's "Michelle", she already played me like a 10 cent fiddle and then turned me in to the proper authorities. So far in this game I've dated a frigid Irishwoman, and a weirdo who turned out to be working undercover for the police...and that's in between getting rejected every time on that DateFinder web service in the game.
...at least all this makes my real life sexlife seem better

Oops! My bad, I know I'm way behind so I guess I just naturally assumed I'm the only person on here that hasn't finished the game. I'll change it to white.

Is it just me, or does this game not have near as much side stuff to do as San Andreas had? Maybe I'm just not far enough in the game yet(just a shade under 50% finished), but you can't really dick around with stuff in this one like you could in SA. The graphics are 100 times better and it seems so much more realistic, but there's a couple things I miss that SA had.
Like jumps, for one. I just discovered that wicked jump in Alderney where you can clear the water and go into Algonquin. But there doesnt seem to be a ton of em(unless I havent looked hard enough), I miss the insane jumps on SA, like takin a bike off the top of Mount Chiliad. I also liked the different arcade games. IV has one, but it's pretty lame.
There just seemed to be so much more side stuff to entertain yourself with in SA(gambling, jumps(especially in SF), arcades, take over gang territories, those different stadium missions like the stunt track and crash derby, etc). I really like GTA IV for the realism, and its an awesome, awesome game. But at least to me it seems like outside of doing missions, all there really is to do is walk/drive/fly/sail around and oogle the cool scenery.

I haven't played any GTA game before, so I can't really comment on what is lacking compared to past versions, but my understanding is that this has a completely new game engine from VC and SA and they focused on developing that at the expense of having as much side stuff as the previous versions.
GTA IV has 50 stunt jumps that you need to complete to get the 100% completion level (there are maps online - both in the game and in real life - showing you where they all are). There are also a bunch of races you can do with Brucie. Also, if you get a cop car, you can do vigilante missions, and track down the most wanted criminals in LC. You can also steal cars for Brucie (and later Brucie's friend); and delivery drug packages for Jacob; as well as perform assassinations for a shadowy character who calls you on a pay phone (plus, you can play pool, darts, bowling, go to the crazy Russian show, the Comedy Club, and the strip club). Overall, the storyline only makes up 68% of the 100% completion.
Besides Michelle and Kate, there are 3 women you can meet online and start dating. On Love Meet send messages to SoBoHoe and LawChick. On Crap List look for an ad from a party girl looking for "NSA fun and blog material". Like your other friends, if your "like" level reaches a certain level, they'll offer special abilities to you (and they do invite you in at the end of the date).

Thank you, I've been trying to figure this out forever! I'm just under 50% done, and I've barely done any side missions at all. I was wondering how close I was to the end of the game, as I feel like I'm getting somewhat close to the end. I must be then.

Make sure you pick some good weather before attempting the boat part in the last mission (Doing the deal path)
