Thought I'd share this gem of a site a friend sent to me. Anyone who's poured over MLS listings looking for the perfect home will probably get a kick out of this.

Funny stuff. I'm often amazed at how poor the pictures are on some listings. People that don't bother taking all the flyers off their front step or cleaning up the fast food bags off the coffee table... garages and basements packed to the rafters with junk. Holes in the walls. Broken windows. It all just screams "I don't take care of this thing, wanna buy it?"...

My wife and I recently purchased a house and the hunting experience was one part disgusting and one part hilarious at times. We went into one place that had a several plates of nachos covered in salsa that had to be several days old all over the counter. it was odd ... like the tostito factory blew up or something.

^^ When my mom was looking for a place, I went with her and it's true. Some people don't clean up or anything when selling their house. It's unbelievable. We went to one house where there was pee and poop all over the basement floor, from her dogs. We were surprised to find out the woman was a real estate agent. You'd think she would know better.

I've been looking at houses and I can't believe the condition of some of them. Since my house is on the market, I make sure its spotless before I go to work just in case someone comes by before I get home in the afternoon.

I've seen houses with dirty laundry on the bedroom floor, unmade beds with disgusting looking stained sheets, filthy bathrooms and dirty dishes all over the kitchen. Then there are the houses that smell like cat pee. Seriously, you can't have your carpets cleaned for 200 bucks before listing? I could never live in a house once I had a visual of it looking like that. I wonder if realtors even tell their clients to clean the house, because mine had all the agents that came through complete surveys about cleanliness, smell, visual appeal, etc.

The scary thing is, since these filthy homes are on the market, the way the owners live under normal circumstances is probably much worse than what we see. Gross.

It's true, some people you just have to wonder. ! we went to smelled like someone had smoked 15 packs of cigarettes in it that morning. An air freshener anyone? Or the pile of dirty clothing all over the floor. I couldn't open one of the doors in one house we went to, the knob was bent so far it was impossible. The holes in the drywall in the same house were nice to look at, too. Or the place with what looked like a pterydactyl cage in the backyard.

I've recently put my place up for sale, and my realtor turned out to be one of those CAPS-typing guys. Drives me nuts. I really should ask him why he chose to do it that way.

And, no, he didn't tell me to clean my house or anything. But then he probably just assumed that I would because I'm not a slob!

I feel bad if I leave the house in the morning and I left a splash from brushing my teeth on the sink!

Have to agree, renters are the cause of the most of it.

Cant really blame them though, its not their responsibility to have it neat for a home sale, their responsibility is when they move out and while there to not to damage the home.

Being renters in a house for sale last year, I can tell you that we didn't thouroughly clean the house everytime there was going to be a showing. We didn't leave it in a total mess either, but the house was just crappy enough that it wasn't going to sell anyway. It was a great house to rent, as it was decent, and the rent was cheap, but it wouldn't be a place that I'd want to buy to live in. At the price they were asking, you couldn't buy it to rent it out.

For a few of the open houses, we cleaned the house up pretty good, but after a while, there were so many open houses and showings that we gave up. We finally bought a place and ended our misery. The place was on the market for at least a year. No one lived there for at least 9 months after we left - It nows has peole in it, but we don't know whether the house sold, or whether the owner finally just rented it out again.

- Typing in all capitals
- Blatant lying

The no-price thing is especially annoying and frankly baffling strategy. Are they embarrased to list the price because it is so out of whack with comparables? This is what springs to mind anyhow.

In the past while house-shopping, I would generally ignore the ads without a price listed, unless the picture looked particularly enticing.

I can't be alone on this. Realtors, take note.
