Default A bad night for Atheists

Watching the Home Run derby tonight, caught a funny comment by a ESPN commentator which goes as follows:

Quote:
He beat Cocaine and Heroin addiction, found Religion and made it back to the big leagues. It's a terrible night to be an atheist. (in refrence to Hamilton's struggle and now success from drug abuse)
Imagine if someone said the same thing but changed atheist to Christian or Muslim

On a nice note, good to see a Canadian win the Home Run derby, Justin Morneau beat a tired Hamilton in the final round, but the real story was Hamiltons' amazing 28 home runs.

Anyway grats to Morneau, not that I'm a big fan of MBL.

PS

On a related note, if I believed in Hell - Chris Berman, Joe Morgan and Peter Gammons in the same booth. Not a good night in Hell either.

Look at the growing fundamentalism in the world, HOME and abroad, and most nights are bad to be atheists.

Or even thinking spiritual beings.

I heard that last night as well, and while I understood the context of how he was saying it, it was still a strange remark to me.

Well, it was an incredible performance, and he came back from incredible lows to be there. It's a different comment for sure, but that's the worst I could say about it. Whether iin a religious sense, spiritual, or just plain emotional, Josh Hamilton's is an inspiring story in my opinion.

Inspiring, but I was surprised when they went straight to him after losing. I mean, Morneau won the tournament that everyone is there to see, so maybe he should be interviewed first since he actually won. I thought that was a bit of a slap in the face for Morneau. He was probably the most hated guy in yankee stadium last night.

They always interview the runner-up first.

Same goes for sports like tennis and golf.

I don't recall them doing that last year.

IIRC they interviewed Alex Rios when he finished 2nd before giving out the trophy. If they didn't then they were wrong last year. Runner-up is always interviewed first.

I think the Atheists comment was from Rick Reilly who said some weird things throughout the night. He was the one bashing Morneau the most for no reason.

I thought the guy who said that was awful all night. He had some of the worst comments. I think he was the same guy (Reilly?)who said, "we have 8 white guys in here, where's the Latinos?" etc. The guy was trying to say things that were contravertial but he just sounded like a jackass. Also Peter Gammons is senile.

Yeah he was quite annoying all night, I felt a real sense of 'this Canadian better not ruin our perfect night' from the whole panel, especially him however.

I mean Justin was almost ashamed to win and the crowd was of course fully behind their American success story and not the frenchy sounding Canuck

I thought it was a stupid comment by the announcer because you are right when saying what would happen is someone had said "it is a bad night for insert religion". There would have been HUGE outrage over the comment and probably wouldn't have been fired.

I am sure God (if there is one) was really pushing for this ex-crackhead to hit a lot of homeruns. Who cares about taking care of hunger, disease and war. Lets make sure this guy breaks a record tonight.

I also read on here a child molester won millions of dollars...how did god play into that one?
