I'm down for a new look license plate. Ours is pretty old. I am really surprised how conservative some people on this forum are. I'd get one with a Flames logo for sure.

Looks like its another 8 months away from release, but province mulling over specialty plates for organizations fund raising.
I suspect if the Flames have one, money will go to a designated chairty.
Also, "Strong and Free" to be a potential new slogan on all (unless they go with the option to have a specific slogan replace it for above mentioned specialized plates) plates.
Its not "Live Free or Die", but it still a pretty cool slogan IMO.

no doubt. Those burka wearers practically run the Department of Motor Vehicles! I heard the new license plate will feature the outline of a burka wearer holding a wild rose in one hand and giving a thumbs up with the other hand.

Is it just me, or does it seem like every level of gov't in Canada is stealing our money?
15-million bucks and I'm willing to bet an 8-yr old with Photoshop could come up with better. Remember when we paid 10 million dollars for the "Canada" logo with the small maple leaf over the a? What a friggin joke...Canadian's pay taxes out their butts for absolutely nothing. It all gets stolen...

I just hope ours don't end up like those horrific aborted fetuses attached to the bumpers of BC cars.

Plus, its also the English translation of Alberta's official slogan in latin.
Doesn't stop the elected Liberal(s?) from spouting off about it being American, I guess they don't sing the Canadian national anthem very often, either.
An article from last month that has more info that I just found:

I sware to God if they make me pay the $70+ to go register my plate next year then turn around a couple months later and make me pay for a new plate and another $70 to register that one I'm going to have someone by the balls! I think they better make sure plates don't have to be replaced until their sticker expires.

I'm sure that's how they'll do it. I believe that's what they did back in the 80s, when the current plates were introduced.
It's also how they brought in the new driver's licences, which have been out for 5 years now but some people just got their new style licence.
Likely, the only time you'll be forced to change your plate is when your old one is expired; you buy a new vehicle; or you want to get one of the specialty plates.

Even worse a professor:
Quote:
"It wouldn't be so much a change of licence plate so much as a change in nationality," observed David Taras, a political scientist at the University of Calgary.
"Because those are words that ring in the American national anthem, on American licence plates, in the American Declaration of Independence."
|
He was referring to the "Strong and Free" phrase.

This blogger sums it up quite well.

I still think the B.C. plates are arrogant as shat. "The Best Place on Earth?" It makes me want to smack the guy that came up with that slogan.

It's just marketing. who doesn't want to believe they live in the best place on earth? I just don't like their Olympic logo at all. I liked Salt Lake City's much more.

IIRC, these were not valid tags for the rear of the vehicle though; you could only display them on the front.
