That's why I mentioned Theriot... he's an everyday SS for the Cubs.

After some good offensive games early in Cito's tenure, the team has more or less reverted back to not getting much offence. They won consecutive 1-0 games than had a game in Seattle where they got a heap of unearned runs, than two of three this weekend in Anaheim they're scoring two or less. In all honesty they're looking the part of a last place team. Too bad they're wasting Halladay's best years being a middling team.

Since baseball is the sport I love most about in the world (outside of hockey and croquet...kidding kidding), I thought I'd give an update on some prospects. Hope some people find this interesting and watch for these names.
David Purcey now has a 2.77 ERA in AAA, with 34 BB and 107 K in 104 IP. He's getting older now, and if he doesn't make it as an end of the rotation starter he'll be a good bullpen guy.
Russ Adams' stock keeps dropping year after year, as he's now hitting .204/.298/.339 in AAA. Chances are he will no longer be a Jay after the year.
Scott Campbell was a draftee from New Zealand, the first native New Zealand player ever to be picked in the MLB draft. He leads all of AA in hitting, going .338/.432/.459 and has walked 45 times to 41 strikeouts. He is known to have a great eye and a solid bat, and he has dominated every level of the minors thus far (Except high A - he skipped it) and if Aaron Hill's concussion becomes serious in the long-term, it's good to know we have 2B depth.
One of our 2007 1st rounders, JP Arencibia destroyed High-A ball and is now in AA. He's hitting .267, and while still showing power, he's yet to walk in 60 at bats.
Ricky Romero, our former 1st round pick, is pitching to the tune of a 5.99 ERA. He always seems to do well through the first four or five innings, and then has one horrible inning to end his game.
2007 1st Round Supplemental pick Brett Cecil has a 3.16 ERA in AA and will most likely be in AAA by the end of the season.
And for some news about this year's top pick - David Cooper - he's hitting .358/.429/.580. 13 of his 29 hits have been for extra bases, and he is really showing gap power.

Wow! A walkoff win for the Jays! They were down 6-2, came back and tied it with a huge inning, Rios acores the winning run on a Rolen hit in the ninth (might be an error, went through the SS). About friggin time. And Rios was key with a 3RBI triple.

That triple in the 7th was HUGE for Rios. You could almost hear the monkey jump off his back as he rounded the bases!
Too bad they're so far back already, as this has the chance to be a real momentum creating win.

I think Cito was the one who first said it yesterday afternoon. And he's right...they're a last place team in a Division that features three of the best teams in the league. Since Marcum went down the pitching has sort of cooled off too. Halladay usually gives you a great outing but behind him it's pretty hit or miss lately with Litsch, McGowan, and Burnett. Plus McGowan left early last night too. So the injuries are starting to do in that rotation that was so good in the first two months of the season.

Yeah and I heard that McGowan said his arm/shoulder hurt during his previous start last week.

I found one good thing out of this season: The Drunk Jays Fans Blog.
Hilarious.

I guess the Jays players are taking some exception to being told by their Coach and GM they will likely miss the playoffs. Big comeback walk-off win last night, and an 8-1 lead in the 5th inning tonight.
Keep it up now.

Sadly, McGowan has been put on the DL, and with him and Marcum gone, and Burnett being Burnett, the season appears to be over before it even began. Looked like a really solid team on paper, but the guys just couldn't hit for crap this year.

Burnett lowered his trade value with that terrible performance today.

Ken Rosenthal says that the Jays offered the Brewers Burnett for Hardy but the Brewers passed and went with CC.

Blue Jays: David Eckstein is on a one-year deal, and Marco Scutaro is not a long-term answer. The Jays recently offered Burnett for Hardy, according to a major-league source, but the Brewers have no interest in breaking up their major-league club — and in Sabathia, they acquired a better pitcher.

Does JP think that the Brewers were actually going to trade a 25-year old SS with a .853 OPS for a rental pitcher?

Stating that Sabathia is only a better pitcher than Burnett is a serious understatement. Burnett is like Nuke Laloosh from Bull Durham. Million dollar arm and a .....you know the rest.

to give him some credit, his start was less than 24 hours after an emergency root canal. he also had a filling the morning of the game. Sounds like a gamer to me that he didn't miss his start.
