#13 - Scopes Trial
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopes_Trial

Quote:
The "Scopes Trial" (Scopes v. State, 152 Tenn. 424, 278 S.W. 57 (Tenn. 1925), often called the "Scopes Monkey Trial") was an American legal case that tested a law passed on March 13, 1925, which forbade the teaching, in any state-funded educational establishment in Tennessee, of "any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals." The case was a watershed in the creation-evolution controversy.
#12 - Moon landing

#10 - Iran Contra affair

Quote:
The Iran-Contra affair was a political scandal which was revealed in 1986 as a result of earlier events during the Reagan administration.

I didn't get #12 either until fredr said it's the Moon landing. The picture is of the Moon "landing" at an airport.

Hmmm, didn't think of that. Wonder what the significance of Dora, Batman and the alien have to do with #3.

It was drawn by a five year old.

Well, yeah. I don't think anyone was meant to think these entries were submitted by actual five-year olds.

The whole point is that these are ways in which a five year-old would picture these events. If the question is, "why are Dora and Batman there for the moon landing?"; the obvious answer is "it was drawn by a five year-old, and five year-olds like Dora and Batman."

I thought 12 might be 9/11 since its pretty significant and not in there but who knows what a planet landing at an airport means.

It's sad that some of the more intelligent ones with more subtle historical meaning and sly humour are pushed aside by Batman on the moon.

The Trojan Horse, Batman on the Moon, and the Santa Maria ones are all terrible.

An unsolved series of murders and disappearances of young women in the vicinity of Highway 16 has earned the route the nickname "the Highway of Tears". Since 1988, at least 32 women—31 of them aboriginal—have been killed or suspiciously disappeared along the 800-kilometre (500-mile) section of highway between Prince George to Prince Rupert. These crimes have remained largely uninvestigated.
