Yup, that pretty much does it for me then. I will be getting an 3G iPhone. Probably not on the 11th, since there probably wont be enough stock. But in the next couple weeks for sure.

Disadvantage, as you say is pay a fee to access the Rogers network, which may or may not be necessary. Fido also doesn't offer a My5 type thing.

Anyone know if I can get the "new activation" packages on Fido if I'm an existing Rogers customer?

So are we still looking at around $100 a month with Rogers for the new plan with 6GB?

The 400mb plan was a joke.

$30 for 6gig data + voice plan + VM (visual voice mail) + any thing else you want. So you are probably looking at around $70-$90 / month for most users.

Do we have to pay for every letter we receive in the mail? No, the cost is covered by the postage paid by the sender. The same should be true in cellular market. Unless you can some how invent a reason why sending a text message is more costly then physically moving a piece of mail.

You pay for incoming texts in the US ROGERS will do the same in know time, nothing wrong with paying for what you use, people that text have features anyways to cut down the cost
nothing is free in this wourld people have to get out of this entitlement attitude

Damn, why did they have to do that. Now I want it.
Anyone know if they will honor a retention voice plan for a hardware upgrade?

They won't say it did though... they'll call it market research on their part.

All I'm saying is that charging for received messages makes no business sense. Increase the charge for sending them if you have to, but don't punish people for receiving things they have NO CONTROL over.
Besides, it's much easier to increase the cost to send then it is to try and implement some method of blocking incoming messages for users. Overall, it's just a dumb idea from any angle.

You and me both. Really shows what people in numbers can accomplish. Chalk this up as a victory for the little guy. I'm so happy right now. 6GB is essentially unlimited.

I really love being the pessimist, but I'm pretty sure within 6 months, this will probably be the norm ($30/6GB) on all data plans, since they're showing their cards that it is possible for them to offer it. Promo, domo, who cares. I'll be waiting for the Bold myself.

Market research as in "If we don't lower our prices, no one will buy our phone."

Its only for a limited time its not going to be forever, its just to appease the Apple users, the iphone is a fad, a ton of phones are being released in the summer and fall that do more than the iphone and look just as cool
most clients are getting the iphone cause its the in thing, after the orignal release happens and canadian clients get the same shock as americans do with the iphone it will settle.
looking forward to seeing how Canadians react when they get issues and have to send the phone to apple having no phone for 2 weeks
Warranty with that device is very different no loaners for apple users

Might be impossible to get one anyway, the Fido store at Chinook says they're getting maybe 30 phones...
I think they'll extend this to be their permanent plan if they see that the demand is there and their network can handle it.
And replacement phones don't matter, I use GSM because I like to change my phone a lot, so I don't get replacement phones anyway.
