Default XP Service pack 2

After some hassle, I finally have a new hard drive installed on my computer. Now that I do, I'm looking to update to SP2 for XP. The only issue is that when I do it on the Windows site, the download just doesn't start. I found a site, softwarepatch.com, but I'm kind of leery about downloading something and not being able to scan it(I can't install my usual anti-virus because I don't have SP2).

Is that site legit? Should I just find someone with SP2 on a disc?

Why not just get SP3 from Windows Update?

Why? Even if it was a "pirated" copy of WinXp, it should still work on WU if it was done right.

I had SP3 on some of my workstations for about 3 hours before I started rolling them back. Too many headaches for too little gain.

Oh you meant "go there" as in getting SP3. I thought you were referring to actually going to windows update.

I didn't realize there were problems with it. I pretty much use Vista at the office and at home. Everyone else here is running XPSP2, a couple have asked me to up them to SP3... but I'm not going to. I haven't had any time at all to look into the release notes and test it out in our environment, etc.

Definitely too much of a headache for me, but not because of bugs - just because of the process itself.

...as for the OP, I took a look in the server room. All I have are about 48 copies of XPSP1, which would just leave you in the same boat. Sorry man.

You can download a copy of XPSP2 from a bit torrent site, though. As long as you have your own product key, there's nothing illegal in doing that.

I haven't had any issues with SP3 on any of my systems.

If you're gonna update from SP1... do SP2 then SP3... there is suff that happens in SP2 that gets skipped in SP3.. Spicifically some USB stuff...

You can Download SP2 here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You sound like you should be a Mac user.

Me either. I tried initially when it was first released, but it was taking forever and a day. Then someone said that so many were downloading that the whole thing was backlogged. So I left it for a couple of weeks. Then when I tried, went like any other download, no hassles downloading, no hassles in using any of my stuff.

Thanks for the offer Ale, but it's a bit of a drive for me from the QC area up to Calgary.

I was told to disable my screen saver and turn off automatic updates. I haven't bothered to screw with it lately, might have to later on this evening.
