Default My tower aspen tree is dying help

I need some help bad. I noticed that the leaves are falling off my tower aspen tree that I planted this year. I planted 3 last year and a bug killed 2 of them. so this year I replaced the 2 and now one of the replaced ones has its leaves falling off. I don't see a bug this time. How do i save it? Is it another bug? Bad soil? Should I bring a leaf to greengate and ask them? too much water? Any suggestions? It gets expensive to replace every year.

here is more info:

- They are planted 4 feet apart along my fence which gets sunlight from morning til 7pm. they're planted there to block the neighbors.

Thanks in advance

-

Are the leaves yellow/brown/green?

Are the leaves soft/crispy?

When did you plant it?

Maybe it's just in transplant shock?

Conspiracy theory: Your neighbour is killing your trees because poplars damage foundations.

I live in the country and many of the natural aspens are in the same condition. This also happened in 2005, the year of the floods and non stop rain in June.

This June, we also had a lot of rain and a lot of cold weather. Apparently that produces some fungus that spreads via spores and attacks the natural aspens. Other poplars do not seem to be affected.

In 2005, the leaves eventually dropped off but they came back and the tree was fine. I am presuming the same thing will happen this year. Not sure if this is what your tree has but take a leaf and take it to a nursery, SunnySide, GreenGate and Golden Acre all have specialists and can help. I find Ruth Staahl at GreenGate to be particularily good.

Bring a leaf in. If it's dying, get the trees replaced under warranty.

How much root did the tree have when you took it out of the container? I always check this now - I've been burned too many times by plants that have almost no roots even though the top looks fine.

Columnar aspens are very well behaved trees and do not damage sidewalks or foundations. They also are not susceptible to the same diseases that quaking aspen are.

First off... is it a Tower Poplar or a Swedish Aspen? There is a difference.

Where'd you buy the trees... did you get them at a greenhouse or at a big box store?

I have planted a lot of Swedish Aspens. Of the 20 I have planted, I've had 3 deaths... 2 were because the root system had been butchered by the nursery (they were obviously field grown and then potted after the fact) and one drowned. The 3 that died were all Costco trees. The 2 replacements that I got this year at Costco are both struggling. No problems at all with the other trees that I got at a proper greenhouse.

The root ball should remain moist but not soggy.

What kind of soil did you plant it in or backfill it with, have you applied fertilizer and how much, have you used weed and feed or anything else like that in your yard?
