What would be hilarious is if the clerks were being asses and removed the previous best before stamp (from already expired milk) and replaced it with a new outrageous best before date in some sort of twisted prank.

Milk costs more than gas. It cost $2. Throw it out.

Is that why there's a filter on the letters??
I've been trying to figure that one out for a while.

I find chocolate milk always has a much longer best before date than white milk.
No idea why, though.
Like right now looking at this chocolate milkshake stuff I bought; the BBD is November 9/08

They have a saying where I come from: If it's brown, drink it down. If it's black, send it back.

I was going to say "are you guys serious, you can't tell if milk is bad or not just by sniffing it?" but then I realize that I occasionally get into dust-ups with my wife when I want to throw out dairy products that she insists are still good.

Oh, maybe it has something to do with the fact that it really does not have much milk but has a lot of additives?
Same with most of those flavored coffee creamers.

Milk that is UHT pasteurized can last for months unrefrigerated if unopened. That type of milk is usually sold in Tetra packs, though.

Here's the update, after thinking about it and the mild debate on whether it's good or not, I decided to go for it. I had a bowl of cereal with it as per usual this morning, it tasted fine (skim milk always tastes pretty bland anyway) and so far I feel as normal as can be.
Starting to believe the Ken theory...

Give it a few hours. Don't wander too far from the bathroom.

On more than one occasion I've enjoyed a bowl of cereal only to have my wife stare at me in disgust as she pours down the drain what remains of obviously-sour milk.

If it tastes and smells fine you probably won't get sick. Its much more dangerous (and yummy) to eat fancy imported cheeses that aren't pasteurized.

Pffft there are some wussies in this thread
I live on my own with three other guys and we never through away food…we had a thing of yogurt that was about 3 weeks expired and I ate the hell out of it, I had to avoid the mold parts but other than that it was delicious and I was fine
The other day my two roommates shared a can of sardines that was expired in 2001 and they where fine, I look at expiry dates as suggestions

You would understand if you've ever seen the milk they use to make chocolate milk.
Without giving away too much, let's just say, Pepsi Clear wasn't a big seller either.

Just bring the carton to the grocery store. They will exchange it no questions asked at customer service. When I used to work at a grocery store a long time ago it would happen all the time.

Mostly just totally arbitrary. A great deal depends on how much milk is left because that drives how quickly it will warm up. Leaving a 4-liter out for X hours is going to do much less to spoil the milk than leaving a 2-liter out for the same amount of time. It also depends a lot on the initial temperature of the cold milk and the temperature outside the milk. There are a bunch of scenarios involving your formula that make no sense at all.

I've heard that expiry dates are stores "sell by" dates, not necessarily the last day of the foods life span, so using it only as a suggestion is a good idea.
