Default Man in wheelchair charged with drunk driving

Quote:
Police in Australia have charged a man for drink driving in a motorized wheelchair after he was found to be six times over the legal alcohol limit, local media reported on Monday.

It's never occurred to me that wheelchairs can be considered vehicles, though it would make sense.

Maybe call it a Drew Fata?

Or maybe I have visual schizophrenia

On a slightly similar topic, I was pulled over the other night after having a couple of beers, and me and the 4 cops were having a discussion on how many beers one should have if they plan on driving. I argued that it was 3, they argued that it should be 0. They won the argument because they were cops. They said just last week they charged a girl with impaired driving even though she only blew .02, because she wasn't able to drive in a safe manner and was swerving.

The part of the discussion that was news to me, was the fact that the charge of impaired driving can actually be applied to almost anything that hampers your ability to drive. Things such as being sleepy, eating, being high. The one cop said it's funny how many teenagers she pulls over who are obviously high and get really cocky about how they can't prove it and there's nothing the cops can do, but if she's pulled them over for swerving or erratic behaviour she'll charge them with impaired driving.

Even a REal Estate Lawyer could get them off.

I've heard of people getting charged blowing below the legal limit. I agree whole heartedly if you're impaired but below the stated limit, you should be charged. The way I see it is that if you blow over the limit you're charged regardless, if you blow under but still can't control your vehicle due to being impaired you should be charged.

Being drunk in a motorized wheel chair? If he/she needs the wheelchair then as long as someone's with them I see no problem with that. I don't think you can be driving 20 clicks bombed and not worry because you're in a wheelchair, but just because you're drunk and can't walk is no reason to charge someone for impaired driving.

On a somewhat related topic a doctor neighbour of mine was telling me that when she was in med school she read a study that showed that statistically the least amount of accidents occur when your blood alcohol content is 0.02. The only real hypothesis she gave was that you're more relaxed so there's less road rage, but they didn't actually know why this was.

I don't know...he was on a 4 lane road...in a wheelchair...driving that wheelchair erratically, not in a car. Seems pretty damn dangerous. And I think he was alone.

I didn't read the article, just saying there should be a line drawn. If you're running down a four lane road in a drunken stooper you should be charged, hrmmm question being I guess should it be impaired driving or simply drunk in public? Wouldn't it be discrimination for impaired driving as the same thing someone who had the use of his/her legs would get a lesser charge.

Just a thought?

Huh...that is an interesting thought. I wonder what you would get charged with if you were running around Crowfoot drunk, provided you haven't gotten hit by a car first.

Can you get a .08 while riding a bike? I'm talking pedal bike.

I started riding mine to the bar every weekend, saves me the hassle of finding a ride home and a ton of money on gas!

My hands and forearms are pretty scraped up now though...

They're finally paying attention to this scourge of our fair streets.

Its time to get these disabled menaces off our roads!
